Based off of her complaints in the letter, her life is middle-of-the-road.
Her father permanently took her laptop away and replied to her public letter publicly. Sure, shooting a laptop is over-the-top in any situation...but that's the message the father was trying to convey. He doesn't want the video to be swept under the rug. He wants people to watch it. So he did something extreme. That doesn't define his day-to-day behavior.
