Trivia: Samuel L. Jackson only signed on for this film because the title was "Snakes on a Plane". When the film makers tried to change it to "Flight 121", Jackson was adamant to keep it "Snakes on a Plane".

I was suspecting that exact same thing myself, Mr. Ninja.
Although my speculation is that originally they were planning on making it a serious movie, with the vast feedback they have received, primarily from the internet, decided it would be in their best interest to make it a comedy. |

Psychedelics are illegal not because a loving government is concerned that you may jump out of a third story window. Psychedelics are illegal because they dissolve opinion structures and culturally laid down models of behavior and information processing.

Alongside DCK's trivia on IMDB:
In March 2006 New Line Cinema, due to massive fan interest on the Internet, allowed for a 5 day reshoot to film new scenes to take the movie from PG-13 to a R-rated film (originally the film wrapped principal photography in September 2005). Among these additions is the Jackson character's line, "I want these motherfucking snakes off this motherfucking plane," a line that originated in an anticipatory internet parody of the movie. Link to trailer f3lix speaks of. |
