Psychedelics are illegal not because a loving government is concerned that you may jump out of a third story window. Psychedelics are illegal because they dissolve opinion structures and culturally laid down models of behavior and information processing.

An age limit for specialized drivers tests only makes sense. I agree that "different people's mental capacity is greater at different ages". But how does that make an age limit a bad idea? Just set the age limit and those who can pass will pass. Those who cannot, get their driving priveledges revoked.

Tell that to the "get your license when you're 16" age limit...the "no smoking until you're 18" age limit...the "no drinking until you're 21" age limit"...the "no president running stuff until you're 35" age limit...and all the other age limits.</font>[/quote] Well it's safe to assume that mental skill and maturity are two different things. Indeed, the Government regulations that bar companies from engaging in age discrimination only apply to individuals over a certain age (I could look it up, but I think it's either 40 or 60). The point is this... even the government acknowledges that discriminating against the young is a necessary evil, to ensure the maturity of participants.

Of course, it wouldn't be because of maturity...but instead not being able to see...and hear...and drive.

Well my rambling basically helped the other side of the argument.
What I'm trying to say is that the Government discriminates against youth based on maturity, but protects those who are older from discrimination. It would be extremely difficult if not impossible to associate increase in age to a decline beyond an "acceptible" driving skill, merely because we don't enforce this acceptible level to those of all ages; to do so would be the only solution I could see as being somewhat feasible - test everybody regardless of Age, Gender, Race, and all other legally protected groups. |

No shit, I think there should be a bi-yearly driving test for everyone. It doesn't matter what age you are (as long as you have a liscense). Muncie, IN has the worst driver's I have ever seen. It's insane. Young, middle-aged, and old, they all suck ass at driving. Anytime you get on the road here you are putting your life in the hands of fate. Unless you drive an indestructable truck like I do.

I don't want to take a freakin' test every year. Especially since I am sure the state would charge an arm and a leg for that too. Just like they do for a freakin' sticker on my plates.

so, hypothetically, say a law is passed that says I can't legally drive after my 70th birthday. If I'm lucky enough to still be around to turn 70, there is no way in hell I'm gonna not drive. I don't give a shit if I'm blind, deaf, and dumb... I'm 70 years old, goddamnit, I'm doing what I want!

god i bitch about this all the time.. i don't understand why some people don't see that it can be extremely dangerous to have elderly people on the road. agreeing with whoever it was who said this earlier, once you hit a certain age, there needs to be a DRIVING test... not just some shit on a paper. they need to get their asses into a car and prove that they can be safe on the road, WITHOUT driving ten miles under the speed limit or cutting out in front of people because they can't SEE them.
i actually had some old lady back into me at dairy queen a couple years ago... she wasn't going very fast at all, so it didn't hurt my car.. but it still pissed me off. i had been sitting there, waiting to pull out, probably thirty seconds before she even got into her car. but she never even saw me. it's fucking mind-boggling. |

We can dance if we want to, we can leave your friends behind, because your friends don't dance and if they don't dance then they're no friends of mine.
