ESPN has just released its Top 25 for NCAA football. Keep in mind this is only the spring top 25, but if you take a look it is one of the most ridiculous placing of top 25s I have ever seen.
Let me begin: * There is no way LSU should be ranked higher than USC, especially with USC's incoming class and Mike Williams making a return for the Trojans. *Oklahoma should not be below Georgia. Oklahoma has their Heisman trophy winner returning as well as other key points to Bob Stoops' offense. *The next issue I have results in three teams. Utah, Maryland, and Ohio State. Why is Utah ranked ahead of OSU? Ohio State should be ranked lower than Maryland, which they are. They lost 14 players in the draft, and their incoming class isn't one of their strongest they have ever gotten, however it is good. Maryland should be ranked a little higher, I mean they have turned that program around over there so good that they should be competing with the Michigans and Florida States of the collegiate ranks. And Utah, what? They don't even deserve a spot in the top 50. *Other problems I have with the Spring poll is the setting of : Toledo, Minnesota, and Cal. They shouldn't be in the top 25. If I had it my way I would put the spring top 25 as follows: 1. USC 2. Oklahoma 3. LSU 4. Michigan 5. Maryland 6. Ohio State 7. Miami 8. Florida State 9. Georgia 10. Iowa 11. Texas 12. Purdue 13. Kansas State 14. Florida 15. Tennessee 16. Auburn 17. West Virginia 18. Virginia Tech 19. Nebraska 20. Clemson 21. Louisville 22. Georgia Tech 23. Pittsburg 24. Alabama 25. Washington State Of course, it is only spring. |

Vol, your top 25 is actually pretty good. I also feel that you definitely went on the strength of team, as opposed to playing favorites, because Notre Dame is no where to be found (and deservingly so).

I'm briefly touching on this but here's what i see wrong with your top 25 so far. Note i usually hate ranking/reveing teams in preseason, because its all arbitrary and usually never hold up once the first game starts up. Also note vol that this is ESPN's updated top preseason 25 based on what they saw in spring camps around the country. Here are a few mods. i would make....
Oklahoma is probably a little too far up, they lost most of their defense, and quite frankly, even if they have jason white (who really isnt an outstanding quaterback) they wont have a defense to stop anyone from scoring, plus they lost they d-coordinator to Arizona. Maryland, i'm not jumping on the terepin train, i wouldnt put them in the top 10. Florida State- Move them up a few they will be strong. Ohio State- Granted we lost about everyone, 14, to be exact (btw funny how people kept telling me OSU never had talent compared to other teams and we set a draft record), our defensive coordinator, running backs coach, and tight end/recruting coordinator. So i see this year as a rebuilding year. Granted our defense will be solid, we should field the best linebackers in the country, our secondary could be solid if Ted Guinn Jr, the #1 defensive recruit comes through, and the d-line is a big "?" except for Simon Frasier. Offensively, i couldnt even tell you what to expect, we could go either way, bad or good, having Izzary suspended indefinitely at tight end really killed us, so things will be interesting. Bottom line we probably wont finish top 10 unless a few x-factors come through, and come through big. Georgia-returns a good team move them up^. Purdue- I dont see them finishing anywhere above 20. Lost alot, and kyle orton will have no-one to throw to. Texas-move them up also 13-18 i pretty much agree with Nebraska- entirely new offense, west coast, where the only play they ever ran was option right, or option left. New coach also, even if they do have a good year, i dont see them in the top 25. As for the rest of the list, i'm not to familiar with some of the teams so i'm not going to speculate, but you could take out pittsburgh, they lost fitzgerald and that was all they had goign for them. WSU didnt have much last compared to the year before 2002, and lost a few more, they shouldnt be too tough. Minnesota, however really needs to be on your list, they have a beastily qb and rb, they'll be the dark horse of the big ten, and could give alot of teams trouble. Finally even though Utah is shit, compared to major conference teams, with the schedule they play, and the relative dominacne they have over those shitty teams, they wont lose much, and will probably end up in the non conference BCS bowl. |
