Shit's gotten violent in Egypt
Scores killed in Egypt football violence - Middle East - Al Jazeera English The feeling on the ground, from twitter, is that this was pre-planned; the ultras of Al-Ahly are quite political and were active in the revolution this spring. Security forces in the stadium appeared to be actively avoiding helping. I think this represents something off the field, and I think it's going to make an impact there as well. |

This is incredible.
A much bigger story than "Football breaks out into violence" 74 people dead!? That's worse than most battles in Iraq/Afghanistan. |
The basis of our governments being the opinion of the people, the very first object should be to keep that right; and were it left to me to decide whether we should have a government without newspapers, or newspapers without a government, I should not hesitate a moment to prefer the latter. But I should mean that every man should receive those papers and be capable of reading them. |

It basically has nothing to do with football, other than the Ultras happen to watch the game, they were leaders during the revolution.
Ultras groups can make for a homemade army quickly, it happened with Arkan's Tigers in the Yugoslav wars, and the Bara Brava can be bought as cheap muscle in Argentina. |
