If you really care about the music itself, then you shouldn't give a shit whether or not a band is on tv or 15 yr old girls have their tshirt; you should be concerned with the music. Widespread exposure will help more people hear the music, and hopefully generate more profits for the band, so they can keep turning out great music...
Most people just want the band to be special to them, and the less people that know about them, there more special the band seems. People just like to feel elitist (in a reverse way).
