Lightbulb Lent

Well, as of midnight, it is officially Ash Wednesday, which means the begginning of the forty days up to Easter that comprise Lent. Now, if you're not religious, you probably don't care about this period of time, but, religious or not, everyone can learn something from it.

One of the best things that most Catholics do during Lent is to give up something that means a great deal to them. My family always gives up candy but we always try to do something bigger than that, too. I, for instance, am going to give up playing videogames during the week. That, for me, will be asking quite a lot. However, I am looking forward to the challenge. I think a ritual like this where we learn to do without would be a great thing to do for everyone in this country. If there is anything people could use to learn in this country, some willpower would be right at the top of the list. You could do it too, if you want. Give up your biggest vice for forty days. It could be soda, junk food, child pornography, whatever. Just try giving it up for forty days. I promise you'll come out a stronger person.

Lent is about trying to be a better person by being more charitable, as well. However, that mainly delves into religious stuff that really has no place on nubblies, so I'll stop.

If you'd like to post something you're going to try to give up, that'd be fine. I'm going to get back into the first half hour of my 24 hour day of fasting.
