Shooting a gun is an experience like owning/driving a car. Everyone should do it once (or a few times) as a fun experience, but as a regular activity if you aren't in law enforcement or the military, and actually need to do it, it's pretty monotonous and ammo is fucking expensive.
Just my two cents, but much more valuable to get a gym membership or a heavy bag and take our your stress that way.

If I try and play it off like I wasn't trying to be subtly cool, will that make me even cooler? Undoubtedly, the children of celebrities who get to drive Ferrari's, Lamborghini's, and high-dollar Mercedes on a daily basis have probably grown accustomed to such experiences. Maybe it's just the fact that the initial novelty hasn't worn off yet, but I still get a kick out of racking the slide on a pump shotgun. For the very reason that it's not something you can do on a daily basis, I get more out of it. I have a gym membership which I use on a daily basis (and have great abs to go along with it). I have a heavy bag (albeit, not currently in working order). I have half a box of nicotine gum that I can always chew. These are all okay things -- but if you want to feel something new, go shoot a gun. Once you've shot
that gun, go shoot a different one.
Cost is relative; I had friends who would blow $100 at the bar in a single night -- almost every weekend. That doesn't necessarily make the cost of ammo lower, but relatively speaking, there are a lot worse things you could do than waste $0.30 on a 7.62x39 round, or $0.18 on a 9mm round.
