Religion as a large institution, not as a personal belief. You can be a great statistician who still has a lucky hat, that isn't really the point.
An example of my point would be Jewish law having the basis of being born Jewish as your mother, as until recently this was the only way to be sure of a bloodline; with DNA testing it becomes superfluous.
