If you take away all the predators of a given animal, assuming everything else remains constant, food supply, mates, niche, etc, that species will increase in population. If not controlled, that species will exceed the ecosystem's carry capacity and members of that species will starve to death.

A lot of people have this view, after all it has been the only game in town since the Cambrian explosion, i'm glad that it's nonsense. Allowing the animals to starve to death as in your scenario is no good, thankfully we're here to sort it out.

Shocking fact of the day : the total mass of cows(domestic animal/forever slave to human) is ten times greater than the total mass of all other wild mammals combined
The reason why (if anyone is left... probably) people in the future will regard us as morally inferior/barbaric :
“What do they know-all these scholars, all these philosophers, all the leaders of the world - about such as you? They have convinced themselves that man, the worst transgressor of all the species, is the crown of creation. All other creatures were created merely to provide him with food, pelts, to be tormented, exterminated. In relation to them, all people are Nazis; for the animals it is an eternal Treblinka.”
