I can explain this from multiple points of perspective. I'll start with the one you are most likely to understand. At the high end, watches are similar to art as an investment. There will only ever be so many of these pieces and there will always be buyers. Generally this watch should actually appreciate in value by at least the rate of inflation if not more. The reason people buy art as an investment, the real reason, is that you get to enjoy it every day that you are invested in it. Show me any other asset in the world that you get to enjoy as it appreciates. Watches are NOT like cars.
The reason I bought this watch is a bit more personal. I love gadgets. This watch correctly keeps the time, day of the week, day of the month, phase of the moon, month, and year. Many watches assume all months to have 31 days and require an adjustment for the shorter months. Not this one. Every time you add a complication to a watch the difficulty of producing that watch increases. So not only does this watch know how many days are in each month, IT KNOWS IF IT'S A GOD DAMN LEAP YEAR OR NOT. that's right. This watch has a mechanism in the date that changes once every four years and only for an instant for moving the date. Additionally the number spot for decade only moves every 10 years (centuries sadly are done manually that would be insane. )
Ok so there's this watch that clearly brings me a lot of joy and looks amazing on my wrist. It ticks all the nerd boxes silently and is incredibly attractive to women. It will hold it's value. If you just made million number 2 from something as silly as bitcoin don't you think you could splurge a little?
