Synthetic biology is going to dwarf all human accomplishments combined.. anyway here's more for the arguement that society depends on a few ultra high IQ's.. Where's Rothschild here?
In our society, praise is almost exclusively reserved for professional end-users rather than the geniuses who enable them to accomplish their feats.
People look up to doctors but never bother to think about those who designed the drugs or MRI scanners they use to treat their patients. Fighter pilots are glorified in movies but nobody ever wastes a thought about the engineers who designed the jet and laser-guided bombs.
Designers who skillfully use software such as photoshop to create works of art will always receive more praise than the person who designed the underlying algorithms.
