Silva is the man, alright? Fuck you. He's the shit. But still, after losing to Arona does his belt really mean as much? I know it was in a tourney format, but that was the first fight, they were both fresh...It seems to take away a little of the legitness. Also consider Wanderlei has only had 3 title defenses in 4 years against Tamura, Kanehara, and Jackson. Of course only 1 of them was a top fighter. His record in his last 4 fights is 2-2. Obviously Silva is still a fucking bad ass, but does anyone think he's losing that invincible aura he had going for the past 5 years?

Beebs 09-02-2005 03:19 AM

I would have to say that Shogun is the chronological champ, which presents a problem since his teammate is the technical champ.

Deadly Crescent Kick 09-02-2005 09:42 AM

holy shit.

what a fairweather fan...

maybe you should stick to sherdog & mma.tv

prior to arona when was the last fucking time silva lost a fight?!

while rua has moments where he shines, he doesn't have the consistency of silva.

i suppose randy coture isn't as good as liddel because he lost to him once...

theMerciless1 09-02-2005 10:30 AM

a fight is a fight, anyone can win any match that gets put together. the better fighter doesnt always win. sometimes people get lucky or, as in wand's case, you just cant find your rhythm and work your gameplan. i think wand is still the best pound for pound.

Repugnant Abomination 09-02-2005 05:31 PM

Not a fairweather fan, just pointing out Silva has been less then stellar lately. And you have to admit...3 title defenses in 4 years? Silvas main knock is that he doesn't always fight quality opponets. I still think Siva is ranked either 1 or 2 LHW right now.

Deadly Crescent Kick 09-02-2005 06:58 PM

silva fights whomever pride puts in front of him.

Carnivorous Flavor 09-02-2005 07:03 PM

silvas downward spiral has begun.

he'll be fighting Tank or GIANT Silva within 24 months, mark my words.

Chuck fights higher quality opponets. This is not Silvas fault, but I feel pride babies him a little. A lot of his wins are vs japanese "pro wrestlers". And I know Silva has grown as a fighter, but fact remains out of the four legit top 10 LHM's he's fought he's 1-3 with losses to belfort, tito and arona and a win from jackson.

He fought jackson twice, so thats 2-3, and Yoshida is in, or close to the top 10, which would make him 4-3.

Repugnant Abomination 09-02-2005 08:21 PM

His first win against Jackson I don't really consider a full win. Tourney's are to difficult..Silva wasn't nearly as beaten up coming into the finals as Jackson was. Not to say he still wouldn't have won, but their rematch shows Jackson was a much tougher challenge then originally. And Yoshida? Sorry but no.

Beebs 09-02-2005 08:36 PM

So his loss in a tourny counts, but not his win?

Repugnant Abomination 09-02-2005 10:10 PM

The difference is his loss in the tourney was his first fight of the night, both fighters were completely fresh. His win over Jackson in the tourney was the final. Silvas grappling match with Yoshida paled in comparison to the war Liddel and Jackson went through. The win still counts, sure, but you see my point.

All I'm really getting at here is I don't think Silva is the clear cut #1 LHW in the world anymore. And that's not to say he isnt the best LHW ever, but we're not talking about ever we're talking about current. Shogun in his last four fights beat Nog, Overeem, Jackon and Arona. That's insane. Chuck last four fights have been wins over tito, randy, horn and vernon. Silvas last four fights have been wins over Yoshida and Nakamura with losses to Hunt and Arona. Just something to think about.

Beebs 09-02-2005 10:30 PM

If Silva wins a rematch against Arona, I think you have to place him back at #1. Right now it's a toss up between Shogun and Liddel, with Arona and Couture in close contention as well.

Repugnant Abomination 09-02-2005 11:18 PM

Yeah, It's really between five guys: Liddel, Silva, Shogun, Arona and Couture. A few things need to happen...
Couture vs Liddel 3
Silva vs Arona 2
Shogun vs winner

I think we'll have a better idea then.

Deadly Crescent Kick 09-08-2005 01:41 AM

your assesment is bullshit.
