I had forgotten about how kick ass that video was. I think zebra posted it first, here it is for those who haven't seen it:

Ugly Bastard 09-01-2010 03:59 PM

Kanye did a song with Justin Bieber. It's not so bad. Kanye packs in a lot more syllables per beat than he typically does:

I died a little inside when I read these words UB.

Mr. Blonde 09-02-2010 06:03 AM

Same. I gave it a listen for the sake of principle but my disappointment was only compounded, not relieved. I can just imagine him bumping this song in his car with his bright orange Oakleys and Scout.

I searched, didn't see that this was on here yet. If it is, well listen to it again, it will infect your brain. You'll be humming it all day.

Orgazmo 09-15-2010 11:38 AM

:(

Fruitacious B 09-15-2010 11:43 AM

I assume that means that it's already been posted? That would figure.

Orgazmo 09-15-2010 12:09 PM

Ya, I think Blonde posted it and then Repug reposted it.

Catchy tune, though.

Fruitacious B 09-15-2010 12:14 PM

Well shit. I must have a child's grasp of the search function then.

"Dark Was the Night, Cold Was the Ground"[note 1] is a gospel-blues song written and performed by American musician Blind Willie Johnson and recorded probably in 1927. The song is primarily an instrumental featuring Johnson's self-taught bottleneck slide guitar and picking style accompanied by his vocalizations of humming and moaning. It has the distinction of being one of 27 samples of music included on the Voyager Golden Record, launched into space in 1977 to represent the diversity of life on Earth. "Dark Was the Night, Cold Was the Ground" was chosen as the human expression of loneliness.[1][2]
Kronos Quartet cover (how I found out about the song in the first place):

I was going to post these guys in my "Sleepy Music" thread, but they're too catchy, and are not just for sleeping.

I've heard a lot of people try to describe bands as being similar to Radiohead and/or Muse, and they're almost always wrong. That is not the case with Headphone, at least in the vocal department. Download their album and find out for yourself, or just listen to this song, and try not to sing along with the lyrics "I'm a lunatic, I'm losing it".

Album was released today, pretty solid overall. Here's a set rip, around the 4:00 mark is sick.

Mr. Blonde 12-12-2010 10:49 PM

old but

Mr. Blonde 12-14-2010 07:39 PM

Heavy tune the whole family can enjoy.

Like it. I was thoroughly underwhelmed w/ the new NERD album on the first listen... It might grow on me after further listening as the previous 2 were kinda similar situation.

Ugly Bastard 12-17-2010 03:36 PM

This song fires me up so much. I nearly dropped a 50 pound dumbbell on my chest yesterday because I was so fired up listening to this song I was probably lifting more than I should have been.

SittinOnDubsWGW 12-17-2010 04:58 PM

That is one of the most scary feelings ever IMO when you feel like you're about to drop a dumbell. It also made me LOL reading it.

Good song though. I've always loved the opening verse.

Mr. Blonde 12-17-2010 07:28 PM

Was that Birdman I saw near the end of the video?

All I could think of watching was that the instrumental would probably suffice just fine for me without all the testosteroney "FUCK 'EM ALL, I'LL DESTROY THE WORLD ON ALL YOU MOTHERFUCKAZ" lyrics:

SittinOnDubsWGW 12-20-2010 10:37 PM

love this cover/remix.

SittinOnDubsWGW 12-31-2010 10:40 AM

Is this song big anywhere else in the country/world?

It's pretty much unavoidable at the clubs out here and Mexico at the moment.

Mr. Blonde 01-06-2011 07:58 AM

Pretty baller song. I could see UB really liking it - that rapper at 1:20 is sick, I wish I could find more of his shit. Posted the Instrumental to this song in...well, you all know. I just figure a lot of you have that shit ignored.

Ugly Bastard 01-06-2011 12:44 PM

Love Bob Marley. Been obsessed with this classic past two days for whatever reason. Love the rhythmic guitar plucking. Gets me fired up.

Unfortunately there is no music video, but it's a great song. Obviously a well-known band, but it's one of the best songs from the best band I've heard in a long time.

I really like this band Porcupine Tree. Sounds a bit like Pink Floyd. They've been around in Europe forever. They have a huge discography, and a lot of it is experimental stuff that you won't cruise in your car listening to necessarily (though I do).

Fruitacious B 02-19-2011 12:21 AM
