Does anybody have any good stories regarding run-ins with the police? I had my first police encounter last night (not counting traffic stuff of course), and it was an interesting experience.

Myself and 2 buddies were launching waterballoons at McNutt (a dorm at IU) with a 3 person slingshot on a rainy Monday morning at about 2 AM.

After a while, we started getting more and more accurate. Eventually we were hitting peoples' dorm windows, and the water balloons hit them sooooo hard it was amazing. We observed some movement in one of the windows that we hit, and someone walked outside and began to walk in our direction.

My friends and I grabbed our shit (a 3 person slingshot and a Rock Green Light box full of water balloons) and began to head down the road away from McNutt. Not long after, a police car comes rolling up, with his lights off. We had no idea that the cops were involved in what we were doing, so my friend carefully sets down the waterballoon stuff, and continues to walk down the road.

The police car pulled by the side of the road, shined a spotlight on us, and turned on his lights. Two policemen stepped out of the car, asking us to place our hands on the car. We do as ordered, and the policeman begins to ask us questions about what we were doing, often yelling at us if we moved our hands, or took them off the hood of the car.

The policeman then began to read us our rights, at this point I was thinking "Shit, Shit, Shit," in my head. Did they think we did something more serious than we had actually done? Or had we broken something in our water balloon play?

Next comes the badgering questions:
"What were you doing?" - Cop
"We were in a water balloon fight sir." - My friend
"Well... if you were in a water balloon fight, who were you fighting against" - Cop

At this, we all shit.

He knew he was on to something, and his questions became even more malicious:
"So what you were saying is you weren't shooting them at people, but rather property?" - Cop
"Are you telling me that you didn't damage anything?" - Cop

It was rather scary, we didn't have too many answers. And at this point I had decided not to be completely silent, because I'd rather risk self-incrimination if by being honest I could eventually let the whole thing pass (which ended up being the best move in the end). So the cop sees us freeze and gets pissed off. Two more squad cars pull up, turn their lights off, and cuff us. My two friends are left to talk to the cop, but I'm taken to another cop car, to be frisked and put in the backseat of the car.

"You know that you are this (motions) close to going to jail, right?" - Cop
"I know sir, I wish to be as forthcomming as possible" - Me

While sitting in the cop car, I hear one policeman calling in our IDs to the station, the station then adviced back that we be taken in. Luckily enough, however, my friends were able to talk the police out of it by being open and honest (even though I believe all along this whole thing was a show by the police just to scare us).

I'm taken back out of the cop car and uncuffed, as are my friends. The cop then shows us the kid that called us in, he was a bit taller than the three of us. The cop then concluded that since we hadn't damaged anything, we were being let go, but if there was anything damaged, that there would be a warrent out for our arrest. He also felt the need to point out that the kid who called us in was bigger than us and we should be careful about "who we mess with," implying that one bigger kid (who happens to be enough of a pussy to call the cops for kids hitting his girlfriends window with water balloons) could have beat up the three of us.

We got our IDs back, and went on our way... back to Briscoe.
