You can do whatever the hell you want. Hunters in the past have found no shame in such acts, so we see no reason why you shouldn't be given creative control here. It should be noted, though, that finding a spectacular kill will outweigh making a mediocre kill spectacular through your own intervention...through your own intervention certainly could help to improve a kill. Before pictures would be nice to judge exactly what's been done to the creature.
