No. John Kerry is not "down to earth" in the least bit. He's the biggest asswad of the bunch of them. Apparently you haven't been paying too much attention. He's malicious in his treatment of the other candidates and makes absolutely outlandish attacks against Bush (who I can't claim to be a huge fan of, but Kerry is often out of line). Besides, his policies will harm us in the international community and cripple us at home. Beyond that, he eminates an aura of pure sleaze. Maybe you can't see through it, Vol, but he puts out a very artificial vibe. Read him say fuck in his interview with MTV, or perhaps see how he handles younger voters, or maybe find out about his reaction to "Puff the Magic Dragon". Kerry tries to be cool. That's not something I want in a president, especially by someone who fails at it miserably and comes off as downright creepy.

And the fact that he does seem artificial makes him down to earth. Doesn't everyone have artificial qualities. What I like about him is his America first vibe I get from him.
