These words have been said countless times by countless people. You are not unique in your suffering. Each person experiences their own trials and tribulations in different ways, and each person finds their own fulfillment in life. You have come to a point where you have realized its YOU all along that has made your life the way it is.
Now is your existential moment, this is where you define your future and how you will choose to cope with it. You're an intelligent guy and I understand where you are coming from and what you are going through, but when you are searching for an undefined "something" ... "something" always shows up.
The best advice I have heard, or can give: "Happiness is an inside job."
Translation: you have to be able to make yourself happy, you can't attach your happiness to a woman, a God, or any other tangible thing.
