We usually just head somewhere close, but still out of town (like San Francisco) and go out to a nice restaurant and do some partying afterwards, get a hotel, etc. We even alternate years as far as who's responsible for making the plans and paying for everything, so it's actually not bad at all. It's more of a cool tradition than a stupid Hallmark obligation.
The flowers I was talking about were for her birthday which was yesterday. Good luck finding a chick who is cool enough to disregard her own birthday.
