I'm seriously considering/looking into teaching abroad in Japan.

Psychedelics are illegal not because a loving government is concerned that you may jump out of a third story window. Psychedelics are illegal because they dissolve opinion structures and culturally laid down models of behavior and information processing.

My brother did that for about 6 months. He's now back in Japan, living with his girlfriend. He has some job at a shipping company. He will probably stay there for a couple years this time.

I'm hitting a similar wall blonde. I am graduating in May and my parents are on the "after you get back from Europe you are getting a job immediately" kick. I don't particularly like working but don't dislike it either. I'm hoping to get a sales job somewhere, I'm good at creating relationships and speaking has always been a natural thing for me. Either way I'm looking forward to and not looking forward to the future.

Get to travel, get paid, and have a decent resume addition. Esp. if you keep up with your computer skills. Speaking of, going to teach myself Java, ID/Gaz. Suggestions on getting started? Remember, I'm honestly only about a little over a year with having any sort of real knowledge whatsoever with computers...but I'd like to know more than basic hardware/html/hosting and domain bullshit.

Smart move, ID. Graduate school very overrated imo (though admittedly probably not nearly as much in some technical field like CS... could be wrong though, I remember Orgazmo telling me about 18 year olds that make as much as he does just because they taught themselves everything they needed to know).
Whatever... the point is: school is for suckers in many ways. Or a better way of putting it: real ballers don't need school. |

I still think college should be started later though. Honestly, what percentage of us REALLY knows what we want to do with our lives that we would spend $40,000+ on for an education?

Not a bad idea, Blonde. Get out of high school at 18, do service economy and sales type of jobs until you're 30 or so, then go back and get a degree and pursue a more "professional" career. For one thing, I can say I always had a lot of respect for non-traditional students in college classes. They were there because they wanted to be there which is something most of the rest of us couldn't lay claim to.

Not 18 year olds. Actually they're older people who had a different profession...and then dropped it to teach themselves programming. Since technical skills can be certified outside of school...and those certs are generally the indicator used to assess someone's skill that you don't previously know, a person can learn shit and get certified in whatever and be as (or, in a lot of cases more) sought-after than a person with a degree.

The only positive I can draw from my experience is that I have more realistic expectations of what work and life will be like post college. People think post-graduate life is money, roses, and fun when that couldn't be further from the truth in all instances. Every college student that says that now I simply say tell me what you think after 6 months in your $35,000 entry level desk bitch job.
