Alright, you guessed it. That's right, IU. There is a 90% chance I will be going to IU next year, and joining all you nubblites that are currently there now. So of course I would love nothing more than any words of advice from anyone there, especially on dorms. I have a roomate already and I was told my information regaurding rooming is coming within a week. So, I am asking for comments, suggestions, and anything else.

Uh yeah, about that. Fuck tuition. Its so much money. The current plan: go to IU for two years, get my assoc. then transfer to Columbia if I still want to go to film school. Who knows what could happen. I could change my mind and decided to stay at IU for all 4 years or I could change my mind after the first semester and transfer right away. We'll see but as of for now, I need to figure out some things about IU.

I like visiting there a lot. The bars are pretty fucking awesome, and the town is nice and big as well. In hindsight, I probably would have gone there if i knew what I know about it now. But that's just me.

My best friend down here just did that exact thing. (See: It's that time of year again) He loved IU, studdied broadcasting then transfered to do full film school.

You will not regret comming to IU. Request Northwest neighborhood, ASAP. It's all based on when you get your housing ap in if you get your priority, so I suggest you do that soon. Also if you are bringing a car, apply for that ASAP. Other than that... yes Northwest neighborhood (Foster, Briscoe, McNutt) and don't get the biggest meal plan, as a matter of fact get the smallest one, nobody can eat it all.

Central.

Central is closer to a lot of buildings (library) and northwest is more by the athletic facilities. But knowing what I know and visiting there millions of times I'd go with Northwest because the people are a lot more down to earth and it's a great place to party.

IU is awesome, I wish I would be down there.

Collins - Artistic Dorm (Pretty Stereotypical), but of the 3, id say they have the best location. But ehhhh... the people who live there are very much 'different' from the rest of campus... and I think they do it intentionally.

McNutt - Lots of Jews / Rich People (Not to say anything negatively, but some people don't get along well with them), nevertheless McNutt is very fun, The most party oriented of the 3.

Foster - In my oppinion the best of the 3. They have the nicest rooms, newly renovated. Right accross the street from McNutt.

In my house requests I put Foster first, then McNutt, and finally Collins, sound okay to anyone? You would consider me 'artistic' I guess but not my roomate. Do you think that would work?

Yes. Personally if you preferred McNutt and Foster over Collins, I would have included Briscoe (Where I lived).

Briscoe has a reputation of its own though. If you prefer peace and quiet it's not the place for you.

If you want to be around people who like to party, and get drunk, and be right accross the road from the stadium so you can hobble over there to the games drunk, then Briscoe is for you!

It's not quite as extreme as I made it sound, but I would be lieing if I said it's not the "partyingest" dorm.

Yeah doesn't sound like me. I'm 'artistic' but not over the top. My roomate isnt 'artistic' at all, neither of us drink (as of now) and if/when we ever do it wont be binging or partying. We both go out we just dont necessarily participate.

If she's not 'artistic' at all (dresses attractively), then she will probably hate collins.

Yeah, no joke. Nobody doesnt go out and get drunk at parties. I know countless people who say they never will and always do.

I didn't say I wont ever drink, I said I don't as of now. I didn't say I will never get drunk, I have intentions not to and if I ever do it wont happen all the time. I'm not a crazy partier. Faraway, I know you've already sent your stuff in, but let me break it down for ya anyways.

Location:
(1) Collins, by far. Sits near all the important educational buildings, the union, and is walking distance to the downtown and kirkwood.
(2) Foster. A little closer to everything than McNutt, but not terrible.
(3) Not terrible either, but you'll get some exercise.

People
(Collins) A dorm for people interested in the arts. Not art as in drawing stick people, but just that everyone there has an active interest and involvement in music, film or literature. This is the dorm where everyone has at least 10 days worth of music on their computer. Bring your vintage clothes and an iPod.

(McNutt) A dorm for people interested in athletics and alcohol. There is a large range in the diversity of people there due to it's large size, but I don't think it's a stretch at all to say this is the dorm where every room has a fridge with beer and 9 out of 10 will go through rush. Bring your NorthFace jacket and assorted team apparel.

(Foster) A dorm for everybody. No one particular social group dominates Foster and seems to house a decent cross section of the student body here. Part of this is due to the International Living-Learning Center there, where lots of foreign students live. This is the dorm where each room will look nothing like the next and you'll meet people who's interests probably differ from your own, though keep in mind that North Jordan (frat/sorority lane) is literally right behind Foster. Bring your uniDiversity shirt and a fork. (for more info see FancyMeghan)

Food
(1) You should bring a fork to Foster because it easily has the best food court on campus. It owns, enough said. (for more info see the Butcher)
(2) McNutt has a food court, so it's kind of nice. Not really anything particularly special or noteworthy though.
(3)Collins has traditional dining with emphasis on vegan and vegetarian food. A lot of variety, a lot of good food, but the old cook retired last year, so quality has substantially gone down.

For me, life in McNutt would absolutely suck. For others, Collins might. They seem to represent the two extremes and I think Foster is a fitting middleground without being too undynamic.

Choose your roommate wisely. If you're going for the random draw, I feel bad for you.

i don't. in fact, i'd go so far as to say that drinking fucking sucks, especially at parties. have i ever been piss drunk? of course. but they weren't experiences that i hold very dearly or even care to think about. not because something terrible happened, but because it truly wasn't that great.

my first experience of bloomington/foster/iu was getting nearly $250 worth of food from the C-Store and Foster. single happiest moment in my entire life. talking of spaceship trailers and feeding my face with free food. it can't be topped.

Anybody who knows me can definitely attest to what people are talking about above. I never drank in high school and swore up and down on my grave it wouldn't happen. One fall trip to IU my freshman year of college and I've been partying ever since! If you go to a place like IU and want to be social, you will party end of story.

For people who say they won't I respect you because I was the same way, but face it unless you have strong religious convictions 95% of conventional people have had a little bit to much to drink at one point or another.

Thank you very much. I know it wasnt exactly a statement in my behalf but in general but its nice to hear someone say its possible.

Oh hell yeah its tempting. I'm not denying it. One of my best friends goes to BSU and has become what I've been told a 'drunken slut' and I never would have imagined. But can you argue that if its something I dont want to do then the best thing I can do is protest up and down that I wont vs. just giving in and saying I will. I bet I'll have a fighting chance if I fight while I can.

i don't have strong religious convictions at all. in fact, i have no convictions when it comes to religion. i just realize that alcohol is a waste of time and not half of what everybody says it is.

Entirely inaccurate. Now if you mean of the people who go to parties, all of them drink, that will be a little more accurate, but still not true. Three really good friends of mine, Titan, big mike, and a guy we'll call Rob come out and party with us all the time, and never drink. One is religious, but the other two are quite nonreligious. And all are well over 21. And thats just three immediate examples.

I realize that a large majority of college students drink, but that doesn't mean it's impossible to not drink, even if you go to parties where drinking is involved. Don't assume that just because something is true for you that its true for everyone else. To each his own.

You know Blonde, you are really starting to irritate me. I do not enjoy being in the presence of an over-confident, arrogant, know-it-all. I know most people drink in college but you even admited yourself that not everyone does and for some reason it must be completely intangable for you understand that I may in fact not become a hard-core drinker.

I go to college and I never drink. Alcohol has never touched my lips. Just kidding. I drink to excess probably 3 or 4 times a month.

Although I've been drunk twice this week already. When the warm weather hits, I go a little crazy.

To say "impossible" is to be ignorant of what is possible, which judging from you posts, apparently you are. Seeing that you are refering more to "partying" (whatever that is), I should specify that my comments are directed toward the "drinking" aspect of things. So if partying=drinking, then my statements stand, because the examples I've given obviously prove that wrong. Otherwise we're arguing about different things, I think. Clear things up for me.
