Forthcoming - need high school experience in order to get a college job (as dumb as that may sound), so I'm taking care of that part now. Probably go for it in 10-15 years.

That seems crazy overboard (especially for a harmless profession like music). The majority of the PhD candidates I've spoken to are working on their PhDs, while holding college (part-time teaching/interning) jobs. Maybe they're assistant professors at a JC or something, but they were still working at a college. Music can't be that competitive can it?

There is probably not a lot of demand for band teachers. Pretty much anyone could do it.

I could get the phd is music now, but I wouldnt get a job. I need the public school experience to get hired at a collegiate level.

I'm going to step out of character here and just say there is no one I admire on this board more than F3lix. He is an inspiration to me and everyone I know in this community and is proof that if you believe in yourself you can do anything if you just follow your heart. I'm currently in my worst job I'll have. It only goes up from here, so even next year is better, as I have my own beginners in their second year. I'm pretty stoked.

Tangentially, it's odd to think that texting has been a part of every single one of our romantic lives from the very beginning (at least teenage years, and even younger now, elementary schoolers have cell phones), compared to say our parents and all the generations before them. Think of how much easier it is to express certain things via text rather than phonecall. There is no fucking WAY i could say some of the things I've said via text over the phone...
