I bought a new ps2 about a month ago. Today was the first time Ive tried to sit down and watch a DVD on the thing.

I just found out that when I try to watch a DVD on my ps2, I get 2 different problems. One is that the sound cuts in and out, for about 10 second intervals. The other is that the picture brightness fades in and out, going from bright, to dark, back and forth.

Anyone have any clue wtf is going on? I dont think its the ps2, I think it has something to do w/ the tv. My friend had his ps2 over here before and we had similar problems on this tv. Im just wondering if its possible to get a a connector for my ps2 other then the AV ones? Im thinking maybe if I get the old fashion hook ups, like nintendo's and such used to have, that might solve the problem.

Any sugestions would be nice right now.

Sounds like a classic case of shitty RCA cables Nathan. I'd say hook up the bitch with a different set, then use the original set on a different TV/Receiver, then use the new set on that different TV/Receiver. That *should* tell you for certain if A) it's the RCAs. and if B) it might be the terminals on the TV/Receiver.

Im thinking maybe if I hook this bitch up through my satelite thingy, that might solve the problem too. Im thinking its the white/yellow audio/video ports on the tv itself that are causing problems.

Because like I said, my friends had similar problems on my tv, and they had perfectly fine AV cables.

Fuck I need to figure out how to hook this thing up through my dish receiver box. I can see the image behind the dish shit, but unlike my TV, the dish doesn't have a special channel to watch/play the ps2 on.

I just did some research, apparently the fading in and out of the video at least is something sony incorporated to stop people from recording there dvds onto VHS. Since it hooked up into a tv/vhs in one, this is probably the problem, and could quite possibly be why the sound cuts in and out too.

There's a hell of a business strategy. Make the quality shitty from the beginning so people won't want to make copies. Nice.

Yea well in the process, they completely fucked over me being able to use the DVD feature on my ps2. However, I dont understand. My friend hooks his ps2 up through his VHS and it works perfectly fine. Maybe only certain VHS, or maybe the thread I read was complete bullshit, but it sounded logical.

Now if only I could find our old VHS, id hook that up and give it a whirl. If that doesnt work, it looks like a new tv is my birthday gift, March 18th. Im getting tired of this small ass tv anyways.

Actually, if you even tried to make a copy, it would come out as complete snow.

And yeah, you have to hook it up through your TV or a Receiver. VCR won't do the trick.

Unless you've got RCA (yellow, red, white cords) ins on your TV, Video capable Receiver, or Sat box (which I don't think even motorola makes 'em with) then, you're SOL.

Well, my sat box (dish network) actually does have the RCA hookups. However, when I hook up through there, I cant figure out which channel I have to go to for the ps2. I can see the image in the background trying to show through the picture, but thats it.

I am now wondering if buying something like an RF switch would bypass this problem. I just ran up to the hardware/radioshack here just to find out there closed. I figured they woulda been open till 8, but nooooo.

Anyways, this is frustrating. Btw, I tried it on my dad's tv, everything worked fine. So its not the cables/ps2, its the tv/vhs combo.
