Hey guys.. its been a bit since ive posted. So I just found this thread of mine again, and judging by the original post date, ive been lifting steadily, about 3-4 times a week now for about 2 months. As a result, ive put on about 8 lbs, and have seen both significant weight and rep increases in all of my various lifting exercises.
Its been about a month and a few weeks since I started taking the whey protein. I tried the casein for the first few weeks I had it or so, but it just tastes so god aweful, and dissolves very poorly so I really haven't taken it since. Would you guys consider my improvements, strictly based on the fact that ive put on 8 lbs of mass good so far? 8 pounds in about 2 months? Its definetely not fat either, because im starting to get much more tone throughout my body. Im just curious if that is good progress or not based either on your guys lifting, or just lifting in general. And in all reality, I dont really give a damn what I weigh, as long as im getting stronger, and it shows physically. |

i'm skeptical of your ability as somewhat of a newcomer in weightlifting to gain 8 lbs of lean muscle mass in 2 months.

So that would have been good progress, if I did in fact gain that much? It may be more like 6-7 lbs, my weight fluctuates a bit. But when I started lifting a few months back I was around the 162 lb mark, and im up to around the 170 lb mark.
Ive been steady w/ the whey since ive got it, drinking a scoopful in a glass of milk after each workout. As I said ive hardly taken the casein. I have made a conscious effort to drink much more milk, and eat more protein foods. Also cut back significantly on pop and such, replacing it with lots of water and milk. |

I don't know, i suppose it's possible, but some of that may be water weight...regardless it's good that you're making improvement and sticking with it

Well ive been documenting sets, reps, body weight ect since november 16th on a spreadsheet. Heres what my body weight have been along the way in order, although there were several days I didn't actual weigh myself.
162, 162, 165.5, 165.5, 164, 162, 162.5, 166.5, 165, 165.5, 164.5, 165.5, 166.5, 167.5, 166, 167, 169, 169, 170 I clearly missed several days, but if you plotted these numbers, even though they fluctuate up and down a few pounds, its an increasing trend. However, when I had last ate, or last worked out also varied throughout, so those could have been variables in my weight. Regardless, im gaining weight, and phsyically it appears to be muscle mass, so im happy thus far. |

Its January 8th, first official recording of my weight and workout routine was taken on November 16th. At that time, I weighed in at 162. Today I weighed in at 176. Granted ive been drinking and eating alot worse the last few weeks with the holidays and the school break and such, but I cant imagine too much of that could be fat since ive been lifting all along regularily. However, I also find it hard to believe I would be able to gain 14 pounds in a little under 2 months.
But then again, the scale doesnt lie. Unless of course its broken, its a digital so thats quite possible. But just 9 days ago I was posting how I had gained 8 lbs in a month and a half and Blonde was skeptical of that. Now this is another 6 lbs in 9 more days. I cant say ive noticed significant fat gain on any part of my body, I really never appeared to have that much to begin with. I can say ive noticed both physical muscle growth, and a strength increase though. I dunno.. I guess im a little baffled, I mean maybe I have gained 14 pounds in a little under 2 months, but that seems pretty extreme. I even took 3 shits today, yes 3, and I weighed myself AFTER those 3 shits... |

all you guys who are measuring your progress by weight have it all wrong. go by body fat composition.
buy a pair of electronic calipers. |

Thats what i'm thinking. If you're eating a lot more and taking in protein shakes, Nathan, it doesnt mean it's guaranteed that it's all turning into muscle.

Well I weighed myself today now, and im down to 169... 7 pounds less then yesterday. So I dont know what the fuck is going on, maybe my scale is jacked. Again, I guess I dont really care all that much about what the scale says, but rather what the mirror says. And so far, the mirror is showing improvements, so im happy.

Oh i'm not doubting at all that you're making improvements, and that's great that you are. It's just that water weight and such definitely play into all of that. It's entirely possible that you can lose previous fat and gain muscle and stay close to the same weight the entire time, but obviously look improved. Keep it up man.

So its been 8 days since I last lifted, and 8 days ago when I was lifting, it was up to like 4-5 times a week... Damnit, its crazy how quick you lose motivation. I really should try to pick it back up tommorow or else im going to be sorry soon when I realize im weak again.

Its kind of odd though, I haven't lifted in like 8 days, but physically I look in better shape or something. I dont know how to explain it really, its like I quickly got skinny, but with the muscles I just obtained. I dunno.. its kind of odd, but yea, I should start lifting again.

You gave yourself time to heal is probably one factor of it.

So are you saying its possibly a good thing every so often to take extended periods of rest like that? When I was lifting it was 3 different routines, in a nutshell arms/shoulders one day, back/stomach/abs one day, and legs another day. So I had at least 2 days of rest after each routine for those particular muscles, even though I guess techincally all your muscles are used to a certain extent in all workouts.

Yes. every 4 months or something, take a week off, dont take a week off and eat sugar and stick with enough protein but your max weight should increase if thats what your looking for, probably wont get as many reps out though, you need to remember that if you really work hard youll grow for several days afterwards, even after the aches have gone.
You're just starting out lifting really so youll grow no matter what you do really |

Okay well then starting tommorow im about to try to get myself back on pace. It seems like I haven't lifted in forever now though, even though its really not been that long. You just get in the habit of doing it so much, that when you stop... itsjust kind of weird. Id like to get back in the swing of it though.
