What would you do?
Every couple months or so I see an acquaintance at IU that GWB will affectionately know as "poof." In fact, I don't even remember his real name. I'm not sure, but I think poof is on his 7th year of college going for a business degree. Poof is a really nice guy, and every time I see him we always have friendly chit chat.
Today I was in the Union eating a pizza when poof sits down at the next table to me and says hi. I was drinking one of my favorite energy drinks called full throttle. Poof says "Aw man you're drinking that crap, man I got an awesome energy drink for you. Its awesome stuff, it was started up some skaters (or snowboarders some "cool" group) and it's really taking off." He then start spewing these stats like 0 carbs, # of milliliters of this and that. I don't like where this is going so I interrupt him and half jokingly ask him if he is a spokesperson for them or something. To my horror, poof explains that he is in a "business partnership" with Amway International and he can hook me up with this badass energy drink. I quickly change the subject and start eating my pizza as fast as I can. When I finish I get up and say "Well, poof I gotta go but it was good to see you." He says "wait, lemme get your number so I can bring over some of those energy drinks sometime." I reluctantly relinquish my telephone number so I can get the fuck out of there. I need some good Christian advice. As far as I see it I have 3 options. A. screen my phone calls for a couple weeks and risk seeing poof again some time. B. Answer and just tell him there is no way I am buying his energy drinks and tell him I was just being nice. C. Let him bring his energy drinks over and make him waste his time giving his spiel (sp?) No matter what there is literally no way I am going to be opening up my wallet for these energy drinks that "are so exclusive they can only be ordered online."What would you do? |
Invite him over to do his spiel and when he arrives, set him on fire.
Oh, and get yourself a good fake phone number to give out from now on, for chrissakes. |
I am Dr. No when it comes to this stuff, I'm just not used to someone I know trying to solicit me.
|
How about you actually try the drinks first?
|
Oh man... Amway... ouch. There's a subsidy of Amway to watch out for, "Quixstar". I didn't know that and got cornered into listening to a whole energy drink spiel once and how I should consider "starting my own business" through Quixstar. Ugh... ouch...
Yea I would do everything in my power to stay away from this guy if I were you. |
Is there any gain to remaining on good terms with this guy? Financially or socially?
If not I would recommend going to his place for a sales pitch and pissing all over his bathroom and video taping it. |
He sounds like a good guy.
I mean, I hate to bring up the obvious...but you're graduating soon, ID. You're going to need a job. Maybe Poof could get you in on the Energy Drink Salesman gig? It sounds pretty sweet. I hear the things basically sell themselves. |
By the way, whats the energy drink called?
|
|
It tastes like urine and battery acid.
|
Does it give you the boost that a Monstar Khaos does?
|
I haven't actually read these posts yet, but i'd like to take the opportunity to post some videos of shit we convinced a drunk ass Poof (who I met the same day) to do my senior year of college when I went to IU to visit GWB and company. These are those videos. And yes, in the latter one, he is attempting to (whilst wasted) jump on a bucket, turn backwards in midair, land in the chair and slide the chair backwards onto the makeshift slip and slide.
EDIT: This is a horrible idea, ID. This is nothing less than another form of pyramid scheme. Every person I've seen get in one of these either fails miserably or ends up backing out of it and never speaking of it again. I can't think of some good examples right now but its basically people trying to monopolize on the green/healthy phase america/the world is currently going through. There are these juice/drinks that are super healthy, but expensive as fuck (we're talking upwards of $30-50 a bottle) and while they may be good tasting (i've never had any), they're simply overpriced. Every once in a while i'll get a dumbass customer call in with a domain name they bought wanting to forward it to their "marketing page" for this drink that they claim is "superfood" and its just some canned extension of the company's website. Like a referral or something. From what i've seen people get others SUPER HYPED UP TO THE MAXX about the project to get them started, but I really don't know what the actual angle is. You're a smart guy, its not like you're gonna fall victim to whatever this is, I think you should let him give you the presentation and try to find out more what its about. |
A few kids that were in high school with me somehow got into selling these Quixtar energy drinks. Many classmates bought them at first [probs cuz they thought they were helping a friend], but soon grew tired of the drink. The student salesmen eventually stopped selling the drinks at school because they couldn't sell them to anyone.
the drink sux. I choose option B. |
Kinda off-topic, but ID, why are you still in school if you don't mind me asking? Grad school or 5th year?
|
5th and last year. Grad school might be something I consider a few years from now.
