When Lank and Brooks were first organizing this team, before it was the Nubblites and when there were like 3 people total on the team, I immediately declined an invitation to be on the team because I am terrible at basketball. It was at that time that Lank told me that the team would be to have fun and winning would not be the driving force.

Fast forward a few weeks and we have 15 minutes left VS the bad junior team. We're down about 10 and we have the momentum. It is at this time that many fans and benches Nubblites call for a Play #2. Upon seeing this, Antram flips out and screams, "DO YOU WANT TO WIN THE GAME!?"

Honestly, what the fuck? We're the Nubblites. Winning is cool and all, but fuck...we're out there to have fun. If it comes down to winning every game or having a good time...I'm going to have a good time. We could have run Play #2, executed it successfully, gotten an assload of momentum AND won the game in the process...but, instead of that, we took it too seriously and lost.

Is it shitty that we lost? Sure...but not half as shitty as not running Play #2 the entire game. I'll take a loss everytime over not running Play #2...

Now, I can see why we would discourage running something like Play #3 when we are in contention for the victory...but Play #2 actually works. Who gives a fuck if it's not standard down and back basketball? It's a fun play and it gets the crowd and the rest of the players into what's going on.

I'm just curious on the rest of your viewpoints on this. To be honest, when Antram went assrape crazy screaming it made me want to lose just to piss him off. It made me stop screaming when we would score as I immediately lost interest. Go ahead and share your thoughts.

I fully agree. All of us got into this not to win, but to have fun and give enjoyment to our ginormous fan base. I was on the court at the time, and got the feeling that the only person that didn't want to run the play was Antram. I say fuck trying to win. We have an easy schedual and will do well weither we try or not...our only competition was game 2 and we lost it, so let's move on and play for fun and the fans. So far 9 people have boughten shirts, and a second order is soon to come...we need to give these people what they paid for.

While reading Aut's post, it reminded me of something that Zach said after the game. He said that now that going undefeated wasn't going to be our standout feat, that he was going to try his damnedest to dunk before the end of the season...I feel that we have our standout factor already, and that's our plays. That's why people come. That's why people buy shirts. That's why people go nuts during the game and come back the next week...Let me ask you guys a serious question, how many of you would take time out of your Sunday to watch a high school intermeral basketball team who's only goal is to win...like, for instance, the Lumberjacks? Noone...all of the people that watch the Lumberjacks play, just come over and watch ours anyway.

Whenever I hear the mention of Play #2, I can't help but think of the reaction it got during the first game...not just from the crowd, but from the team as well. It was an extremely gratifying feeling, and we all went nuts. Even though we were ahead at that point in the game, it actually gave us more momentum and our lead grew for a while. These plays, while not practical, actually work for us, and that's what's important.

I think we need to do some major work during practice at playing as a team, because we really don't get used to playing with eachother until about 10 minutes into it. That's why we're always behind by an ass load to start the game. COME TO PRACTICE! Plays like Play #2 will grow on you, and the more we do it, the better they'll be, and more practical, because we'd be better at them...just come damn it, and we will see the results.

For the record, even though it hasn't been utilized too much, I can't recall any instance that Play #2 has failed (and yes, dumbass, that includes practices too).

I'd just like to say that I agree totally with you both. I'm very pleased to hear that I'm not the only one who feels this way. When creating this team, I just wanted to play some basketball with some of my friends that wouldn't yell at me if I fucked up on some play or something. That's what's beautiful about the Nubblites.

Also, about our wonderful "fans." Yeah, a couple of them didn't even watch our game, they went over with all their friends and watched the Lumberjacks. They came over and asked my g/f, who stayed by herself and watched our game, what the score of our game was!!! This made me incredibly mad, especially since some of those girls have b/f's on the team, and others are very good friends with members of our team. That justp issed me off.

Yeah, that does piss me off quite a bit 50 Cent. Seriously, why would you want to watch the Lumberjacks, everyone knows that they're going to win, it was like 45-11 at one point! Us on the other hand, we're fun as hell to watch and our games are close no matter what. We played against the shitty fat team and kept is a bit close and then we played against a good junior team (plus Engler) and that game was pretty close too.

Although it wasn't me that said NOT to run play #2, I do have to apologize because being the Point Guard, I was the player with the ball and should have run it regardless of what Antram said. Next game it will be run, and probably more than once.

I agree on most all accounts. We should definately be trying to make this as fun as possible. As long are all in it for that, then things will work out whether we win or lose. And hell, if we're all on the same page, running super sweet plays, and building our crowd at games, then I think that'll add to the momentum to win more.
I still wanna dunk though, I just think that'd be pimp.

I believe Play #2 was a mighty ducks style Flying V. I think Play #3 involved a half court shot.

Correct me if I'm wrong. This sounds like something tongue would remember.

No, the Flying V was just called the Flying V. In Play #2, we all guarded the guy with the ball while we were on offense. Pretty much every time we did it, we would end up forming a circle around the ball handler, none of the defense could get to him, and he'd get an easy layup. Then the other team would complain about how it was a moving pick, but Gross liked how much fun we were having out there, and so did the fans, so he would let it slide.

As I recall, there were at least 5 plays at one point. Those are the only three we ran with regularity, so I can't remember the others clearly.

Tongue is correct. Though I think the flying V ight have also had a number assigned to it...

I can't recall the numbers we gave them, but there are two versions of the play Tongue is talking about... (a) is exactly like he said, we'd be spread out on the court then when the play was called we would all rush over and guard the person with the ball- the defense would be so confused as to why we were blocking our own player that we could move in unison to the basket.... in retrospect the play should've been called 'the roman turtle'. Version (b) followed the same pattern- rush your own player and defend him to confuse the defense, but at some random moment the ballhandler would yell 'disperse' and we'd all run to random places on the court, mostly in awkward, unhelpful directions- but one person would run towards the hoop for the wide open pass + layup.

And yes, Gaz is right- we most certainly had a play that involved taking a 1/2 to full court shot.

Good memories. I'm especially proud of BDH for standing with his fellow nubblites on the hallowed Tiger Den court. Oh wait....
