I can't help but notice that aside from the spending money point, you people aren't complaining about December, you're complaining about Indiana. Snow, ice, slush, wind chill...these are Indiana things, not December/Christmas things. It's your choice to be here, whether you like it or not. December/Christmas is completely different as far as that stuff goes in say...Florida or California or Australia. I don't think it should be a factor because you choose to be here.

That's fine. I won't be here either. You can go out of state, is it more expensive? Yes, but you chose not to. Do you have to go to college at all? No, but you chose to. I know that anyone in your shoes would probably make similar decisions, maybe to the point where you don't even think of having a choice, but you do. If you wanted to, you could drop out of college right now and move somewhere warm. Will you have money? No. Will you be successful? Probably not, but you could. It's your choice not to.

Double post.
So instead of wasting it I'll at least attempt to say something good. Ummmm, Winter sucks and I hate snow. I hate having to go to school in Indiana (Even though IU kicks ass). I havn't played putt putt golf in years... does anybody play anymore? I can't remember the last time a ping pong table was actually used to play ping pong. Are there still video game arcades? Or have consol systems completely replaced them? [ December 04, 2004, 01:06 AM: Message edited by: DJ FC ] |

So what you are saying is that in order to be successful and/or continue any practical ventures which I may have at this time requires me to put up with this weather? Exactly. And it sucks, I'm sorry.
I hate December in Indiana. Also if you'd read my original post, you'd notice that it wasn't entirely about weather anyway. |

No. You could spend the extra money to go out of state. You don't think it's a good enough investment. You're still chosing it, whether you want to or not. I'm just saying that weather should be left out of the mix because that depends on where you are, which is a situation that can easily be changed. It should have no bearing on how much you enjoy the time of year. | |

Does weather change with seasons? Of course it does in some places, but that really wasn't what this tread was about until Blonde spun it that way. We were talking about the holiday season. So, if you want to break it down into those two categories, that's fine. We were talking about option one, which option two has no bearing on. Quote:

So let's assume we wanted to bitch about politics.
Well you might say, we can't bitch about politics, because we could always move to another country. This is reasonable because even though we really don't want to move, we could avoid the current political system if we tried. Therefor, there is no reason to ever say anything negative about American politics. (Unless you somehow felt that you were actually changing the political environment by bitching, but come on... how many people actually think their bitching has any say whatsoever in the political world) Sounds absurd doesn't it? If you live in Indiana (which most of us do), the subject of "December" carries with it much more than simply holidays. December brings about radical changes in the weather, most of which I dislike, and therefor I dislike December. Perhaps I should say "I hate December in Indiana." But for me, the alternatives would always be negative, because changing climate would force me to leave Indiana, and in turn therefor leave friends, family, and my college education. So what are my options? 1)Live as a bum in Florida, during December (I would hate this) 2)Continue my Education at IU during December (I would hate this slightly less) The only conclusion is that I hate December. Do I expect people in Florida or Southern California to hate December? Maybe not. Do I give a fuck? No. December blows because all the options it gives me blow. On another note: If you like December because of Holidays, then you are a dumbass because there are some places where holidays aren't celebrated so your point carries no weight. See how absurd this is? The argument of whether or not you like December inhearantly carries the premis that a current situation/some sort of locality is being assumed. For us, this assumption is the Christian Mid-west, where Chirstmas is celebrated, and December brings about weather change. |

Also you did not account for my other argument, it had nothing to do with money.

When I began this I was focused at Mr. Blonde. You decided that it was your duty to have a comeback, though. Anyway, if you have a problem with that, then just don't talk to people that approach you, wanting to "spread the christmas cheer." Just ignore them and move on with your life. If you don't want to donate money, then don't. Nobody really gives a fuck whether you talk to them and donate money or not. I know I don't. In fact, I'd prefer it if you didn't. I don't give money and I don't talk to people any more than normal. No one really cares.
As far as your other post goes... All I have to say is that you're a fucking moron. Does everyone/everywhere celebrate Christmas? No, but most people/places celebrate a holiday at this time of year. The Jews have Hannukah, the blacks have Kwanza, Asians celebrate Christmas (on the 27th) and Boxing Day (on the 28th), and if nothing else there's New Years. As you said, you have two options and you choose this one. Suck it up, live with it, and stop wasting my fucking time. I haven't heard such a whiney little bitch since we put VOL in jail. By the way, you can bitch about politics because you can change things. The United States is a democracy (in theory) and there is strength in numbers. That's why if you really want to argue something and care about an issue, then you join a group or get involved in some other way. Vote. You make it sound as if the people of our nation can't change things, but they can. It's not like they're trying to change the weather. ![]() |

Just to inform everyone, Jesus wasn't actually born on Christmas day. The stupid fucker's birth date isn't actually known, but from what I've read, the date which Christmas is on is actually that of a pagan holiday which was changed to represent Christmas.
And tongue, your arguments about living in Indiana and shit being a choice...pull your head out of your ass. You know damn well that it is not a choice being stuck because of a financial situation. Your arguments are all based around "well you could do this instead", but in reality, you're just stretching everything to the far, irrational extremes. I could choose to drive my car off of a cliff, but simply because the option is open does not actually make it the rational one. |

It really isn't that irrational to go to college or just move out of the state. So the loan you take from the bank is a bit larger. You spend a little more money. If you really cared enough, it isn't hard to do. I know pleanty of people that don't have the money to go to school out of state, but do. How often do you hear about people moving out to Hollywood to "follow their dreams" with no money? Use what you have to get a place to stay and get a job. I would go out of state if I didn't have such a good deal here. You think I have money?

The point is, you tried to say that people's location was completely choice, when it really isn't. Sure, there are a lot of things that people can do, but again, they're irrational. I don't hate the weather in the month of December enough to completely change my life and plans for the future. However, it doesn't mean that I can't bitch about it all the fuck I want. It's called choosing your battles wisely. Going to a completely different college or town just because you don't like the weather isn't a battle that is worth fighting.

pop quiz: 1. how many wise men were there? the hell you say? three? the answer is that no one knows because the bible never says. 2. when was jesus born? well, we know for sure that it wasn't on december 25th. that's a pagan holiday. it was popular in ancient roman days when constantine of rome wanted to reunite the city, and declared that from then on, they were all christians. and to help celbrate the new state religion, we're reassigning the sun-god holiday that you love so much, and all it's customs, to the celebration of the birth of jesus christ. you can still keep all of your pagan traditions, we're just going to call them something else. how can I be so sure that jesus wasn't born on december 25th? because it says so in the bible. he was born while the "shephers watched their flocks by night," which was probably no later than october. shepherds have their flocks penned up during cold winter months like december... we don't know when he was born, really... but we know when he wasn't. It is a choice to be where you are. Besides being in prison, I can't think of one reason why anyone can't leave where they are. Look at the president. You'd think he'd have to live in D.C. when he weren't in another country, but look at G-dub. He spent half of his first term in Texas. It is not irrational for a person to move. Are you saying that people that do go to a school out of state or don't go to school at all are irrational?
Did I ever say that you couldn't bitch about the weather? That doesn't sound like something I would do considering I bitch about it in Jan/Feb when the wind is blowing in my face at 20mph when it's 15 degrees outside. My argument is that it shouldn't have any bearing on the conversation we were having as to the joys of the fucking holiday season because it is a variable that changes depending on location. |
