I just had our new General Manager (Executive Vice President of the entire company) come down to my office to chat for a while. He just moved here for the job from Alaska. We talked about Alaska for a while (since I was genuinely facinated by how an ISP could possibly work in an area so remote that for 4 months out of the year your ONLY way in or out is a $1,500 plane ticket [yeah, that's coach]).
You know what he said to me? "I don't mind you coming in here on the weekend, (with a Big Grin on his face) as long as you have a life outside of work." I've been lucky and had some really good bosses in my time. This guy may very well end up being the coolest one I've ever had. The longer I work here the more it sinks in that to be an outstanding employee here, I actually need to spend more time hanging out with my friends than learning what I think I need to learn to do my 'job' better. To all those disillusioned and bitter about 'Growing-Up', 'Getting a Job', and entering the 'Real-World'... Good Jobs are out there. And it has to do with Keeping the faith that they are possible to find. In regard to all of your pursuits (no matter what the flavor), 'Godspeed' to you all. |

![]() The basis of our governments being the opinion of the people, the very first object should be to keep that right; and were it left to me to decide whether we should have a government without newspapers, or newspapers without a government, I should not hesitate a moment to prefer the latter. But I should mean that every man should receive those papers and be capable of reading them. ![]() |
