COME ON YOU YANKS
|
Not too long ago, I was introduced to rasterbation. What is rasterbation? It's the art of turning normal photographs into a collection of large dots. All photographs are just collections of dots to start with anyway. The rasterbator simply makes those dots larger. In doing so, it makes even very small images able to be blown up to huge proportions with very little distortion. Along with this comes the ability to print off said images on multiple sheets of paper. With a little bit of effort, these papers can be trimmed and taped together, forming one huge tapestry of pimp.
How can you rasterbate? You have options, friend. The easiest way to rasterbate is by simply going to the rasterbation website and uploading an image. They have an online tool that'll do it for you. If you want to get serious about your rasterbations, though...and you think you may actually end up printing them, you should definitely download the standalone version of the rasterbator. It gives you more options and is faster. Yeah. Now that you have all of the info, you should start rasterbating furiously...posting your results. Our first rasterbation attempt: The Dollar Theatre As a tribute to a relic of Muncie's lustrous past, we decided that a rasterbation of the late Dollar Theatre would make a great centerpiece for the living area. The process was simple. We simply measured the area to be covered (a 7'x5' area above our couch), rasterbated it (using standard US Letter paper, 7mm max dot size, and in black in white), and took the resulting .pdf file to kinko's to be printed. Ten minutes, 50 pages, and 7 dollars later, we were at the paper cutter trimming the borders from the printed pages. After about 20 minutes of work here, the product was taken home, laid out on the floor facedown, and taped together in 4 large pieces. Each of these pieces was then tacked to the wall...to form a glorious rasterbation. Source Image: ![]() The Result: ![]() ![]() ![]() Rasterbating is fun, healthy activity to be shared amongst friends. It allows one to let their creativity flow wildly as they cover every square inch of their living space in things that they enjoy...impressing visitors all the while. This won't be our first rasterbation. Just as you can expect to see this thread eventually cluttered with random rasterbations filling our apartment, I expect to see the results of your messings as well. It'll be a give/give relationship, and it'll be fun. Go ahead. |

This is pretty sweet, but looks pretty time consuming.

It takes an hour or two from idea conception to rasterbation on the wall. The bulk of this time comes from making the trip to kinko's and waiting on them to do their shit. Because of that, if you do more than one at a time, you cut down the process quite a bit.
While it may sounds like quite a bit of bitchwork, it really isn't that bad at all. Not only that, but it's definitely worth it once the rasterbation begins to take shape...and finally once it's on the wall. The Bastard and I have a few more gems coming this evening. |

That actually looks really cool.. Something that I would do if I wasn't so lazy. Who knows, maybe I'll try doing since I'm waiting for my job to get set up... Where can we go around here in Warsaw with the absence of a Kinko's?

WOW!
You have just answered my prayers and you didn't even know it. At the main library, we have this printer that can make prints tremendously big... I'm not sure of the width (around 3 feet or so) but you can make a print as long as you wish for only $10. Our idea was to make a gastly large print for one wall of our new living room, but we were stumped as to where to get a high enough resolution photograph. Eventually we gave up. Well that was yesturday and this is today. You are a God. Thank you. |

FC informed me that the dot size options were very limited on the web based rasterbator. Because of this, I highly suggest that you download the program.
Anyway, on the first one, we used a max dot size of 7mm. On the second two, we used a max dot size of 3mm. Basically, as far as I understand it, the larger/better quality your source image the smaller you can make the dots. The whole point of the process is to use the effect of lots of tiny dots to hide any disfigurements that would normally be caused by making a small image big. If you make the dots too small on a shitty picture, these blemishes will show anyway...kinda defeating the purpose. Anyway...if you find a nice starting picture, I suggest 3mm. Also, if you find a way to get color prints, I suggest doing that...because our color Jack Sparrow looked incredible on the computer; however, Kinko's wanted .89/page for color. |

The picture of the chick on the toilet looked fucking hot after you rasterbated it. I think it looks better than the original.
And why the hell hasn't anybody mentioned 'rasturbating's uncanny similarity to 'masturbating'? Come on, now. |

I stayed up late last night Rasterbating Picasso's "Guernica"
I printed it on a plotter at the library which can make 3' by 9' prints, so the final print is about 2.5 feet tall by 6 or 7 feet wide, on gloss paper... it looks beautiful. Took me 3 hours of work, but only $10. I consider this one a learning experience, my next one with be full color and amazing. If i get a picture of it ill post it.
