FUck this school! I got my fuckin computer stolen over christmas break. IU claims they aren't liable for my property. I say who the fuck is liable then if they change the locks in the dorms????!!! FUCK!!!! My roomate got his plasma screen and 1200 dollar computer, along with my xbox live that was sitting there. FUCK IU.

I needed that.

I would also go through your Housing Agreement with IU. There might be a disclaimer that you didn't read. There might even be a way you can screw IU, much in the way they have betrayed you.

Was your door locked when you left? I think it would be their fault if you locked your door and IU locks the dorms. You could probably sue IU claiming that one of their employees stole it.

If you sue claiming one of the employees stole it, then it's a criminal case, and it wouldn't have much to do with you. Now if you sued them for not providing adequate security, then it's a civil case, and you can get compensated for your losses and help better security.

I'm thinking about talking to a lawyer... I dunno, so far I've just been looking for a new one. And just to give you the whole story, our door was locked and shut friday night, and they closed up the building and changed the locks on saturday morning. So, whoever did it either had our key, or access to our room over break, probably both.

I swear to god the whole fucking world's against me.

just f.y.i. anky- many times schools will have a clause stating that they (the school) are not liable for any items stolen from a dorm room at any point in time. if that clause was stated somewhere in the papers used to sign up for your dorm room, you won't get a dime out of IU (with or without a court hearing). it isn't fair whatsoever- but schools use it all the time to protect themselves from this type of situation. i wish you the best of luck.

Anky I would have to say that there is a lot of circumstantial evidence here. There is little to no way you can prove who took it. Talking to a lawyer will cost you money and time. Both which are not going to find your computer. So save the lawyer fees and buy a new computer.
