To cope with lack of self-esteem people do a little thing called "leveling". Leveling, basically, is bringing a person who is seemingly "better than you", to your level. There's no reason to try and bring a person down unless you feel the person is above you. You can argue this til you're blue in the face, but everyone knows, whether you admit it or not, I'm right. I'm not saying I'm better...but...there's no reason to try and bring me down unless you feel that way. I'm sorry I'm confident in myself, I didn't go to any of y'alls pics and talk shit, but I'm sure I could. But that's not how I am. I look to the best in everyone...and flaws are what make us beautiful. So what if I don't have a button nose? God knew what he was doing and I wouldn't change a thing. The arguing until I'm blue in the face comment gets me... are you claiming that we all do this, or that it does happen, or that it's not right to do it.

Because I honestly do not do that, to be honest I usually only talk shit when I'm pretty sure I am better than someone... either that or it's a matter of humor (in which case I like you and am comfortable with you).

Basically, could you clarify your point?

Edit: after reading it more carefully, it should have been obvious at first what you were trying to say. I couldn't have worded what you had to say better "there is no reason to put someone down unless you feel they are above you," but I completely disagree with this statement.

There are other emotions out there besides jealousy, noteably annoyance and hatred. If I'm talking shit to someone 9 times out of 10 it can be derived to one of 3 things

1) It is my friend, and I like poking fun at them - this is friendship.

2) It started out of an argument and I am annoyed that they do not see the situation the same way I do - This is annoyance, and it can also be purely a fault of mine for having incorrect views of the world, nevertheless it is annoyance.

3) I don't like you, and I'm ashamed to be on the same planet as you. You see there are some people out there, and I think we are all like this to a point, who don't like being associated with certain groups. We see people on the street and while we may feel bad for them, we also wish we didn't have to see them at all. There are LOTS of people on this planet I wish were just never born, because they have no hope for the future, and are content to live somewhat miserable lives. There is no real rubric for what people fit this catagory, it goes on a person by person basis.

But the fact of the matter is this: Talking shit, at least for me is not an issue of feeling threatened by someone at all. Allthough what you are saying may be true for some people.
