My basic opinion of punk music is thus: useless, loud noise. It reminds me of going down to the airport and moshing to the sound of planes taking off. The lyrics are uninspired and about some evil in the world or about some girl, that is redundant to say it sucks. "Oh yeah, ignorance sucks." Well, what are you going to do about it? The problem, as I see it, about punk music is that it all sounds the same. Same punk singing, same drum beats, same 3 chords and same lyrics. No "real" singing seems to trickle through the guitar, and whatever quotes are heard are always about the same problems in the world. Some may accuse me of picking only on punk while many other genre’s of music have this problem, I chose to talk about this one. The only thing that punk ever had going for it, in terms of sound, was the "old school" punk, from the 1970’s. Back then it was still the same mindless drivel, but at least it was new and original. Now it’s all the same, simply noise and nothing else.
ex: broken inside my heart 'cause you broke up with me I know its my fault for losing you I look like I'm wondering why I treat you that way I'm sorry for not trusting you at all please give me one try tommorow |

Fuck people who can't accept that other genres of music other than their favourite exist and actually are valid forms of music that a large part of the population likes - even those who are also faithful to your favourite genre. These fuckers make me sick. Oh well, you only like rock? You only like hip-hop? You only like country? More for me you dirty fuckcock, you're missing out.
Not to mention I can't stand when I get on Nubblies and some dumbfuck has posted word for word the exact same thing that they just posted on Seraphim's message board. Dumbfuck. I'd also like to quote "Rhythmboy" of the Seraphim message board: "Maybe it sounds the same to you, that is just your opinion and I'm sorry you can't see the beauty and diversity in music." Thank you, fuck you, and good night And you can read Rhythmboy's full dismantling here: http://www.snydz.com/perl/seraphim/Y...num=1045613126 [This message has been edited by Titan (edited February 18, 2003).] |

I concur with Mr. Titan.
I "hate" Punk and Country. Yet I have healty doses of New Found Glory and Tim McGraw on my computer, because I am open to other genres. (I am "open" to them, that doesn't necessarily mean I "like" them). A masterful Titanic post. ![]() -Ugly Bastard |

Hey, this is Kevin. If you don't understand some of this, its because something of my message is directed from the replys off the Seraphim board... I knew that posting that message was going to cause some controversy, but I didn't intend for it to go as far as it did. For those of you who know me, I've been involved in several different types of genres throughout my years of playing guitar. I think I've learned some things through that. I decided to write about punk music in particular because I used to be in a punk band. My intention of posting the message was to see what others thought about punk. The posting was not meant to be directed at A Thousand Seasons, I have a lot of respect for those guys. Even though I may not be a big fan of there music, the music scene in Warsaw was starting to die out... and I am glad that they came along because they are making it better and I appreaciate that a lot. I shouldn't have posted their lyrics as examples, that was my mistake. It was something that came to mind, but was my fault. Whoever staring_into_forev is, I DO NOT think I am god at guitar... I have never claimed to be, nor will I... because I am not. I don't think I'm that great at all compared to what I could be. I was not happy about that comment. I don't hate all punk, some is good... like Alkaline Trio, Slick Shoes and stuff... its just the majority I don't like that much. I wanted to clarify some things, and I hope I did. Peace.

How the fuck does putting yourself down make you a great musician? I'm in a band, quite possibly the best band in the midwest, does knowing and aknowledging our greatness make it any less so? I think not.

Exactically.
I just want to point out that while we may not agree with what chicken/Kevin has to say, we can't put him down for voicing his opinion. He didn't put people who listen to punk down, he put the genre itself. I'm not standing up for him, he is willing to fight his own battles, but I just want to clarify that coming back and saying that he's a cocksucker is kinda impeding upon Nubblistic/American privileges. I like punk though. Not all of it, but some of it is foot-tappin fun. |

The best band in the midwest? That's probably bullshit. Who is your band?
Did i say he puts himself down? I said if he does anything its put himself down. He doesnt go around saying he sucks and he doesn't go around saying he is the best. He compares himself to other great guitar players and keeps practicing to get better, and it seems to be working. |

I personaly like punk. It is better than rap witch just is playing anoying and country witch sings about nothing importand. I do agree though most of the new punk bands just sing about a girl and suck ass like Good Charlet's new stuff.

i think punk is like any music the more you get into it the more you hear the differences and then you can really tell each bands indiviual sound
i think most rap sounds the same but i'm sure if i talked to some gangster wannabees they could tell each rapper apart no problem yes there are punk bands that use the same beats sounds words etc. but there are many that mix in really cool sounds for there own unique sound and those are the bands i normally like oh and sorry but i do not know anyone who is really into punk that would consider new found glory a punk band there more of a shity pop/emo band if you can call them punk then you can call avril lavigne a punk star when all she is is another pop singer who dresses punk i think you understand my point that doesnt mean you have to like punk or see my views but just see why some people can like it |
