Here's a couple pics from my trip to that hellhole:
![]() That's us arriving after a six-hour drive from Sao Paulo (yeah, I know I have no business using a camera). Notice that it's already getting dark and we didn't know our way into the city very well. And that's one of the weapons we brought along for the trip (along a Benelli and a brand-spanking new MP5). Now I know that the most efficient way to drive around with an assault rifle in Rio is having it muzzle down and using the sling, and having your pistol unholstered and readily available. We were supposed to be driving something discreet, but some genius decided that we would be better of driving a shinning new black Nissan x-terra truck with official license plates - it might as well have had the words "Cop car - Shoot here" painted in white along the sides I had both an awesome and very, very miserable time there...I got severely dehidrated in the first few days, experienced the joys of breathing OC and CS spray, sleep deprivation and had a mild case of hypothermia...I also drank my share of poluted water. The last self defense class was pretty cool too...no fag aikido locks...they just brought some vale-tudo guys to slap us around. Looking backwards, it almost feels like I had a good time. My camera broke, so the pics above are the only ones I have at the moment... |

Psychedelics are illegal not because a loving government is concerned that you may jump out of a third story window. Psychedelics are illegal because they dissolve opinion structures and culturally laid down models of behavior and information processing.

If you are very careful, you can safely make rounds "hotter" to some degree (it depends on caliber, type of powder, weight and shape of the projectile...I mean, it's almost a science), increasing power and recoil, by changing the amount or mix of gunpowder. I don't know which method they used in Rio, but I guess somehow that particular round got more powder than what it should, or maybe the shell wasn't in perfect shape...it just flet like there was a cherry bomb inside the gun's chamber.

We were using reloaded .40 rounds (which means someone picked up used shells and added a new projectile, powder and primer, either by using a manual press, or a semi-industrial press). It's sucky. I was at the range and the people running it (cops) were fairly upset with me.
