I make bad decisions.

I spoke with a border patrol agent the other day for quite a while and it sounds like a pretty interesting job. I'm putting an app in with them today, and from what the agent said, it sounds like they'll be doing their testing around march-april.
I'm definitely going to have to pick up spanish though. They teach it at their academy, and it is very intensive. I think that will be the most difficult part. Anybody on here have any friends/family that went on to do this as a career? |

Pay at GS11 isn't too shabby with LEAP (25% of your GS salary tacked on top) on top of it as well which unfortunately Border Patrol agents top out at, but they get there quickly. ATF, DEA, FBI, and CIA Special Agents top out at GS13. I would eventually want to get onto one of these agencies. Supervisory positions at any of the above agencies are GS15 positons. Pension and benefits transfer from agency to agency without any penalites. I was told by almost everyone during my internship this past summer to "get onto any government agency you can, it's not hard to transfer, and G time is G time, so it all transfers with you." | |

Border Patrol wouldn't be my first choice if I were American but, if you can transfer to other agencies that easily then maybe it's worth a shot.
Do you get a lot of training or education opportunities there? I bet they serve tacos at the cafeteria... |
