fancymeghan,
I noticed on your facebook that you are now engaged. While I am sure that you and your fella get along very well, I make this post to urge you not to get married. I am sick of seeing 20-22 year olds throw away what could be a wonderful decade for them by tying themselves to someone that, quite frankly, they're probably bored with, just too afraid to admit it. Consider this thread a collection of pleas not to walk the plank at such a young age. You have so much more to offer to the world as a single person. Either way, good luck. -UB |

Wow, thank you UB.
I, too, am extremely against marriage at such a young age. 24, at the YOUNGEST, would be my advice. I never really cared too much before, but after somewhat of a quarter-life enlightenment I had about 9 months ago, I have had a completely different outlook on the "plans" aspect of life. On top of the basic common sense reasons (or lack thereof) why not to get so serious at such young of an age, lets put some numbers in the equation. I've said this to many people in regard to my extremely pessimistic views when it comes to relationships. In marriages these days, we're looking that approximately 49% of them will end in divorce. So let's just go with half. Now, that's just actual numbers on reported divorces. It doesn't take into account separations, people who don't want to be together, but stay in the marriage anyways, due to religious beliefs, financial situations, or children, or spouses that are cheating on each other. Seeing as how we're all human, and therefore subject to the "people change" cliche, as well as weaknesses of the flesh, that's got to put the percentage of bad marriages up to...what...close to 70%? Add on the fact that you're still very young and most likely aren't accomplished at all in the real world yet...you're most likely going to run into a lot of opposition with your spouse. Personally, I'll probably get married, yes, because some dumb bitch will probably put her succubus-esque tricks on me and make me believe i'm in love, but I'm going to do my damn well best to make sure that I don't until i'm AT LEAST 25, although i'm shooting for around 27. I just have too much damn stuff I want to do on my own, none of them which involves sharing a house, cars, having a boring shitty job, surburban life/stereotypical neighbors, and children. |

-Look at it this way... like blondie said, roughly 50% of all marriages end in divorce. According to the vows, the marriages that don't end that way, end in death... there's really no way that a marriage can end well.
-Love is an ideal thing, marriage a real thing; a confusion of the real with the ideal never goes unpunished. -Einstein got divorced. So the question shouldn't be Do you love this person enough to spend the rest of your life with them? The question should be...Do you think you are smarter than Einstein? |

Wow, Nubblies isn't exactly Eharmony.com, now is it?
fancymeghan, you've got a good thing going in your relationship. Jon and yourself always seem like such a nice fit for each other, whether it was back in high school, or more recently, like at Weaver's wedding. Please ignore all the hating and pessimism going on in this thread and do what feels right. All those statistics Blonde threw out don't mean anything if you don't believe in them. People who think they can and people who think they can't are both right. I hope to see you (and him) sometime during first semester. |

Schroeder, you're so fucking predictable. I saw that you posted in this thread and I knew exactly what I was going to find. A typical Schroeder response.
Statistics don't mean anything if you don't believe in them? Oh.. ok.. so next time I go to Vegas, I'll just stop believing in the statistics that gave rise to the phrase "the house always wins." And if I don't believe in them, they don't mean anything. Then I'll win pretty much all the time! God damn I'm gonna be rich!! Thanks Schroeder, you're a fucking genius. |

My dear Ms. Fancy. Please don't do it. But if you still decide to and want to get one last fling on, I'm available to help you out with those "wild oats".
Of course this is coming from somebody who married at your age and thirteen years later is still married and probably will stay that way. As a complete side note regarding stats, I'm not sure what they really mean. I think I saw something that both people entering into marriage for first time is much higher than the often cited 50%. As a side to the side. That 50% might not have been accurate anyway as that figure was based some year in the 1960s where the number of divorces for the year was 50% of the marriages that year. It wasn't actually tracking from marriages previous years. It was very possible that the back load of previous marriage from other years may have been exponentially greater than the number of divorce filed for one year. Also, in fairness, I don't believe there was any tracking of divorces from previous years. This must be true info, I read it on the internet a while back. What it didn't factor in when this was done, was a multiple divorced person who fucks the numbers all up. Take for instance, AP's elder sister has been married and divorced five fucking times (Yeah, she might be the problem, but she doesn't see it that way). AP has been married once and never divorced. So out of just these two people in this sample 5 out 6 marriages end in divorce. And then there is the case of AP's sister and her 3 husband (his 4th time) thats make it 7 out of 7 in Divorce (at that time). Fuckers like my sister and Liz Taylor blow the numbers way out of whack. A quick sample around here right now shows that all 7 people here have been married, but 5 have been divorced. What does all of this mean? Hell if I know, I just confused the fuck out myself while typing this up and forgot what I was trying to get across. Anyway, Fancy, if it doesn't work out, I'm still available for a rebound or a divorce attorney recommendation. |

On a separate note, i'm going to go out on a limb here, but does anyone else find this seething hatred of Schroeder that some members of nubblies have for him a bit....irrational and out of date? Granted, I don't agree with him in this circumstance and think he's wrong, but i don't hate him for it.
It's rare (if ever) that he'll sink as low as those who are constantly throwing insults at him, so why do you keep on doing it? |

I think it has to do with the whole way Schroeder is perceived. To most on the board, the face associated with his words is that of the weird looking kid in the one intramural volleyball picture he posted awhile ago. When you combine that with the opinions he puts forth (almost always contradicting the majority...toeing the line between "thinking for one's self" and "just trying to piss people off"), it tends to send people into a fit.
In short, I can see how people could view him as an internet tough guy...one who takes his frustrations out over an electronic medium by getting a rise out of people who don't want to be shittily disagreed with...but, in reality, I think he's just another dude who has his own opinions and, personally, I kinda like reading the shit he says (or, at the very least, the shit other people say because of the shit he says). |
