The Land of the Free
My roommate and I were discussing tonight, "What is the freest country?"
We both agreed that it is probably no longer the US, if it ever was the US in the first place. While the US might still be near the top of the list (could be near the bottom too), there may now be other countries whose citizens are socially and economically more free than the US. Or maybe you think that the United States is still The Land of the Free, it's entirely your opinion. I leave the definition of "free" up to you, but the question remains: Which nation's citizens are the most free? |
 The basis of our governments being the opinion of the people, the very first object should be to keep that right; and were it left to me to decide whether we should have a government without newspapers, or newspapers without a government, I should not hesitate a moment to prefer the latter.
