It really hurts me. I never met the guy, but I live with the products he and his company created. I live with a laptop that allowed me to trust the ability of computer software again. I live with an iPhone, which changed the entire world. I'll have an iPad to use for teaching students next month. I couldn't fathom what could replace the CD, but then came along the iPod. Just... wow...

Comparing him to Michelangelo or Einstein is a bit of a stretch ... the guy managed teams that developed the products. Einstein created relativity himself, Michelangelo painted that shit himself, jobs led a multinational corporation with thousands of employees who's collective effort created a successful platform for existing technologies to come together.

Yeah, RIP definitely. He revolutionized so many industries, smartphones and music to name a few. I have to disagree with DDT here. Apple wasn't much of a company until the ipod came out. I think it's pretty common knowledge that the ipod was basically his creation. All the other products were basically innovations to the ipod template.

The man I would compare Steve Jobs most closely to would be Kim Jong Il ... because he has a near impossible mythology that is gobbled up like he is some Techno-Jesus. Yeah' I'm Steve Jobs was just sitting in his office running Apple-fucking-computers and between meetings he is inventing the I-Pod from a pile of computer parts. He was a brilliant businessman and leader, but an Einstein he was not.

Don't you think the inverse is closer to the truth? He isn't really needed in day to day running of the business, but rather sets the overall shape of the company and has his pet projects? He's not an accountant.
