Basically the entire city was built on the steel industry, and when it died so did the city. In all honesty, having gone there about every other week for work this summer, it is getting better and has a fair amount of potential for the reasons you mentioned, but it is still not exactly welcoming.

I'm pretty sure since he lives in Houston, he doesn't think Indianapolis is a big city. It's a decent city. It has the 25th largest television market in the US, but it's not really all that big. I think the allure of Indy is its cleanliness.

Yes, but not in Gary, the coast is industrial/port/casino boats. Wabash, St Joe, and Ohio Rivers all have nice houses at points, lake Wawasee is nice, plenty other small lakes. I have a lake house on Long Lake, just across the border in Michigan.

It's all relative. Yes, people living in Los Angeles probably regard Indianapolis as "Hickville" as you so endearingly put it. However, to people who live in rural areas more than an hour's drive from any international airport, Indianapolis is probably regarded (and accurately so) as a respectable little big city free of the shallowness and unloyalty you'll find in LA or NYC.

Time and time again I run into indianapolis kids who for some reason think they come from "the city," they probably havnt been to New York in their life and don't fucking get it. Indy is a fucking truckstop.

its really hard to compare anything to NY. theres only a hand ful of cities in the world on the same level and thats even debatable.

Indy has about 2.5 times as many people as my city, which i consider to be very city like. we're practically a 6th boro of NYC though, very similar to brooklyn.

i guess cities are really rated by thier infastructure, cultural aspects, quality of life, job market and real estate market.

are these the things that people dont like about Indy.

I'm curious, i've not been to a lot of "cities"
