Hey I thought that this would be a good thread to get some input about Battle of the Bands...(such as who you think will win). Or if you want to let everyone know that your band is playing.

Ok, i'm not exactly sure, but this is the tentative list of bands, i think, don't quote me on anything...
-A Thousand Seasons (the only real band in this) -The Ivy League (8th grader/ frosh band) -Second Rate Masterpiece (knisley, hodge, woodward, dewalt, and wishart) -Barefoot at the Opera (kevgreen, chuck, cotton, skyler scott, and rusty hammer) -Ingsoc (underclassmen punk) -Matt Anderson's band or something like that (or so i hear...) If this is how it stands, my vote will go to Second Rate Masterpiece just cause they have an awesome name... |

Forgive me Chuckles, I retract my former statement, I had assumed it because I had not heard of them/you.
I'm for A Thousand Seasons since they are the only actual non-fabricated-within-a-month band playing. Better? (Kidding, of course.) |

Yeah, I have a feeling that some people will be kinda disappointed. I mean, without Seraphim, how can we ever compare to last year's BotB? How?
But it'll still be at least some fun. Come out this Thursday, and just to let you know, Barefoot at the Opera is going first. I'm not saying that it will be the best thing you will ever hear, but we're not that bad at all, and I do believe that it will be worth it to come and see. I don't care if you don't vote for us, but I'd at least like to hear what you guys thought. So remember, this Thursday, 7:00, and I believe it is $3 at the door. Come and enjoy what WCHS has to offer. Notice that I didn't say "the best"....*sigh* ------------------ No dogs were harmed during the time it took to write this post. However, a cat got shot, and I ate a duck. |

Final results for the Battle of the Bands.
First place: Ingsoc Second Place: Second Rate Masterpiece Ok, here's the thing; Ingsoc fucking sucked. I mean they were bad. On top of that, they cursed in one song (supposed to be an automatic disqualification), they're singer/guitarist was expelled from warsaw last year, then tried to murder his mother and was hauled away to a boys school, he got out on monday, and they let him play at the show, what an example. Then, on top of all of that, they basically brought all of the middle schoolers with and had all of them vote for them... great thing for a warsaw community HIGH school BotB... Thats not what made me the most mad; it's the fact that these kids listen to Anti-Flag, so they try to be all anti-government like them. They played a bunch of really pathetic anti-everything anti-american songs. I actually like a few of the guys in this band, but I can't believe some of the stuff they say sometimes. When they played under a different name (the Relaxables) they had a website, on which they proclaimed "We're an anti-racism, anti-fascicm band" (On their message board everyone challenged them to define fascism without using a dictionary...) and also posted pictures of themselves flipping a camera off and writing "this is for all your racist mother fuckers out there". If you really are against things like racism, then you go about in a way which isn't ignorant and negative, like racism. Basically, A Thousand Seaons and Barefoot at the Opera should've gotten first and second, respectively, and the whole BotB was a load of shit this year. It wasn't about music; and the results scream it. |

ok, first of all. the relaxables was only associated with ingsoc in one way. and that way is that ingsocs drummer was in that band. the relaxables was a joke around band that had no plans of ever playing a show. the total time that the relaxables ever lasted was about 1 week. the relaxables is not ingsoc, and is not associated with ingsoc.
ingsoc's guitarist is not tryin to be like anti-flag. he doesnt act out in ways like they do. he just has something to say so he puts his words in music. these are his real thoughts, he doesnt come up with the things he thinks only becuase he listens to anti-flag some. also, how are those songs ingsoc played anti-everything? the only political song they played was the first acoustical song. and he was not sayin he hates america. in the song he said. "they dont give a darn about the country, and that disgusts me." He loves this country, just not the people running it. Now, that is one song that was political. And it was not saying that he hated the us. The song after that talked about how warsaw sucks..then two covers. after that was a song about what people believe punk songs should be like. then, they ended off with stab, a song that is talkin to his parents. I dont think these songs sound like they are anti-american and anti-everything to me. Now, about the middleschoolers. what is this? i dont know any middle schoolers that ingsoc dragged in. there is no one at the middle school that the guys of ingsoc have even talked to. the only reason you think this is because you listened to what the guy said when he anounced ingsoc and he said something about middle schoolers. that was just messed up. that guy didnt even know what he was talkin about. also, yes, a thousand seasons got cheated out of the compitition. someone looked through the holes in the top of the boxes and said that a thousand seasons and ingsoc were about tied. then, today on the anouncments, they said that a thousand seasons had 54 votes was it? how could they go from tied with ingsoc to about only having half as many votes. it is sad to see other bands that got together only for the compitition do better than the bands who are acctually trying to go somewhere. 3 bands were acctually true bands. a thousand seasons, ingsoc, and the ivy leauge. all of these bands has been goin on for a while and are acctually in it to try and go somewhere rather than to just win the money. oh well, all of the bands were talented and had an equal chance at winning.

As you all know, I was part of the first band that played, Barefoot At The Opera. Now, just because I want to keep a completely objective point of view, I'm not going to say anything, just yet.
I don't want to start spewing things that I can't back up, so I'm not going to say anything. What I will say is that I think that our performance was pretty good. I'm not going to say damn good, cause it wasn't. There were things that I would have made better to make the performance damn good, but we were far from sucking. On Wednesday, I was able to view some of the bands during sound check. However, I can't judge bands based on their sound check performance, just because I think we sucked during our sound check, but got things together for the real deal. All in all, I'd like to hear some opinions on the rest of the show. I saw quite a few Nubblites there at the show, so let's hear some talking. Oh, and I think that the Henlines (Jordan and his brother, I believe) are good kids. Lugo....well, he's screwed up. Seriously. |

punk_afi,
You might want to rephrase you statement about some of the bands being only in it for the money. I know a couple of bands that were in it just for the money, but barefoot at the opera was defiantly not in it just for the money. I know most of the members in there and if you have been to any of the coffee houses than you would know that they are a band full of very talented friends. yes, i thought barefoot at the opera was talented. i didnt like their style of music but i was not bashing them. i was just trying to get a point across on how people said that a thousand seasons was the only band to have been in it for a while casue we have been playing a long time also, but robert has been gone and that is why we couldnt have played any shows.

I voted for Barefoot At The Opera band and I thought they were by far the best band there.
The others were talented, yes, but they all sounded practically the same, minus 2nd Rate Masterpiece, they just had a unique sound at the shit fest. [This message has been edited by Dirty Harry (edited April 20, 2003).] |

punk_afi - First off, welcome to nubblies. I hope you come often to this great place. My post was written when I was pretty mad, so don't put a lot of weight to it. I just thought that A Thousand Seasons really got screwed somehow, and I personally thought Barefoot should've won over that 2nd Rate masterpiece band, whom I didn't think deserved second. As to the guys in the band, I don't know a few of them, but I do know Henline and Halfacre, and they're both cool guys.
I just think overall, the battle of the bands this year blew in comparison to last year. |
