if the hokey pokey is really what its all about then it wouldn't be a matter of "where do we go now" but it would be returing to a point of orgin. and we can all ignore this fact by being caught up with ourselves and "life" but in the end, when the time comes, we all know that the whole entire time, we were just trying to come back home to the hokey pokey.

The beauty part of that is the Hokey Pokey can travel with us...wherever we may find ourselves...doing whatever it is we please. If the Hokey Pokey truly is what it's all about...we can forget furthering ourselves. Instead, we can dedicate our lives to complete leisure...save a daily Hokey Pokey or two.

If the Hokey Pokey is what it is all about, then which part is more important? You know "you put your left leg in, you put your left leg out, you put your left leg in and you shake it all about" which part is more important? Or is it just what it is all about as a whole?

I hope you enjoy living on top of the world, when you die knowing you lived your life on your knees.

I believe it would be 'as a whole'
If the hokey pokey is really what its all about they we are all screwed for realizing it too late. And if thats the case, what happens after death? for those who know that the hokey pokey is what its all about, and what about those who dont? What happens next if everything we believe fell through to the hokey pokey? |

There is life beyond this realization. First we must spread the word, we must let all those poor ignorant souls that are still in the dark know the truth of "what it is all about".

Maybe we're all jumping to conclusions here.
Let's look at the lyrics: Quote:
If that is the case...then I wouldn't be out of line is saying that we're analyzing the wrong thing. The Hokey Pokey isn't what it's all about. The Hokey Pokey simply tells us what it's all about. And what exactly does it tell us that it's all about? ...It's all about turning ourselves around. Litereally or figuratively? That's for you to decide, friend.

Just about everyone has heard the old cliche "never judge a man until you have walked a mile in his shoes" I think that this cutesy, dorky little song involving the vigorous shaking of body parts, is actually trying to show us that even when someone looks really stupid (i.e. wiggling their legs/arms/butt, or by making life desicions which we don't understand) if we don't understand a reason for someone doing something we should step back and look at it from their perspective. Everyone is going to make choices in their life that people will think are stupid, pointless or just flat out crazy. The Hokey Pokey is trying to teach us to try and find the reason behind these decisions before we condemn someone for making them. On A Side Note: If you would have told me an hour ago that I was going to be thinking philisophically about the Hokey Pokey, I would have laughed my ass off and then probably I would have flipped you off. Oh well life is full of surprises. [ September 26, 2004, 04:02 PM: Message edited by: cough man ]

What a great topic. I did a small amount of research and came up with this.
The original song was named Hokey Cokey and also originated from the words Hocest corpus meaning 'this is my body'. Now where do we hear these words? No not your local strip club. It comes from catholic mass. Hokey Cokey is actually a song that made fun of the catholic priests when they prepared for communion. |
