There were these companies, and they paid really well. We're talking 6 figures right out of undergrad well. And not just 100,000 either... like 150k for a guy his first year removed from his undergraduate degree. These companies were paying so well that other industries had to up the ante to attract tallent. Law firms were strained to increase their pay to try to keep high-level recruits. Technology and Internet firms like Google had to offer uber comfy perks and massive pay just to compete for the best. You would think that any company paying so well would be able to hire some pretty fucking smart people. These companies had applicants from all the Ivys. They had applicants from MIT and Stanford, from Oxford and Cambridge, and from IIT (in India) and prestigeous colleges all around the globe. You would think that with all the competition for these coveted jobs which paid so well (and also led to amazing career opportunities!) these companies would have hired the brightest, most skilled, talented, driven, and competant individuals the best universities in the world could provide.

You would think that, but you are wrong. Because, as I am told every day, the only people they hired were dumbasses. How did this happen?

People make stupid decisions, especially when they're inundated with money. Companies got rich, executives got lazy. And having pro-business g-dub in office probably added to the feeling of invincibility. And as far as hiring processes go, nepotism can lead to your-man-for-the-job instead of best-man-for-the-job, and therefore sub-prime decisions.

I still say that on the job training and experience will provide the most productive employee.

Also, regardless of position and how high up, you will always find "dumbasses."

IMO, people are just overrated. "Prestigious" schools are overrated. Kids who get high SAT scores are overrated. Those people aren't as smart as everyone would like to think. Just because your Jewish or Asian parents rode your balls all your life and made sure you did well on standardize testing doesn't mean you're actually intelligent enough to create financial products for a profit.
