Psychedelics are illegal not because a loving government is concerned that you may jump out of a third story window. Psychedelics are illegal because they dissolve opinion structures and culturally laid down models of behavior and information processing.

No, they haven't. They've just gone on to include shooters. Sports games may be fun, but I doubt they have half the sales that swords and wizards and guns do.

I know this isn't part of the argument explicitly, but Shaw implies a lot of things by being Shaw. In this case, he's implying that he's only talking about Americans.
Sure, Japs play the shit out of dragons, but if you look at US only numbers, it looks like: Final Fantasy XIII (ps3 - Mar 10) - 1,166,000 Madden 2010 (ps3 - Aug 14) - 2,084,170 The source is vgchartz.com. I have a feeling you'll see similar numbers if you break down any genre by country/continent. And, of course, if you take a look at Fifa's European numbers, they'll be through the roof compared to the other continents. In short: Americas: Football Europe: Soccer Japan: Dragons and Swords |

True. If I may digress, Asians really may seem to work harder than many of us when it comes to straight physical labor, and work longer hours, but I can say firsthand that Westerners are better at being both more innovative/creative, as well as efficient. Efficient as in, we can get the same amount of work done in a 40 hour workweek, whereas they're working 80 hours fucking off at work all day (which we all do to an extent, but sleeping on the job and mandatory two hour lunches with the boss are regular here). That's another thing -- because of the heirarchy bullshit, you can't leave work until your boss does. (if you're korean, that is) So if your boss stays till 8 or 9 or later at night, you're usually stuck staying too. And because the boss feels bad about this, rather than changing the status quo and making them go home, he takes everybody out to dinner with LOTS of Soju, which is mainly why alcoholism is so rampant in this country. Which of course, causes 6 year old kids to not have much of a father figure their whole lives.
The schools here don't build creativity at ALL. It's almost all rote memorization of facts, and they discourage diverging from the norm. I know this isn't really news, but to see it firsthand is pretty depressing -- almost everything is homogenous here, if something new gets adopted, EVERYBODY does it. Individuality is not a wanted characteristic. |

The fact that everyone already has a computer means of course a game tailored for that medium will be better than a game tailored for a console. Plus mmorpg's are like crack cocaine. There's no end. There's no even chunks. It's just constantly thinking "fuck, fuck, fuck, I could be leveling up RIGHT NOW!" while one is doing anything other than playing. | |

Your guys' fantasies of being nymphlike speedsters chasing other men or manly, bulky dudes grabbing at each other in tights are no better than my fantasies of being a sexy, androgynous elf slaying monsters in tights.
I think that's the point we're trying to get across here. So cut it out with the screenshots, homos. Put it in the Games forum. |

You can't beat most sports game can you? You can just win a game or a season ... the same thing as completing a raid or using a crystal ball to turn everyone into hobblits or spocks.

Multiple games vs. one game, sounds fair.
The Halo franchise has grossed $1.7 billion, Reach alone made $200 million on its first day, blowing away the expectations. Madden 10 has fared below expectations since it's release, probably because people aren't in as big of a hurry to spend $60 on a game that's pretty much the same game as the year before. It's just as easy to wait a few months and buy it when the price drops. Bottom line is that in the current economy, sports games are having the hardest time, while wizards, swords, and guns (sometimes the combo of all three) are doing fine. |
