Well State income tax can be quite hefty as well - and sometimes there is a local income tax. Federal is only part of the story.

State taxes vary greatly from state to state. Some states have none at all. Some states, like Indiana, use a flat rate (Indiana is 3.4%). Some use graduated rates similar to the federal government up to a point. Once that point is reached, income is no longer taxed at the state level. Also, you get a deduction from your federal income taxes on all state and local taxes paid.

I find this thread fascinating, especially the part about the "Dead Zone."
There is another aspect of this thread that is also very interesting. To prevent this thread from being derailed from it's current course, I have opened up discussion on this topic here. |

I'm just saying that if something were actually "true" why would it need to title itself as such? Shouldn't the information presented make the claim unnecessary? Truth is an absolute term that leaves no wiggle room. If something titles itself as "the truth" it better be certain that it is the absolute truth. However, in this video we get to watch some old fuck in a suit draw pictures on a piece of paper. What's more is that he explains to us the "truth" about the economy in two minutes. That's right, two fucking minutes. Clearly, the video is titled as such because it's trying to sell us the political activist group's version of the truth which is nothing more than an opinion.
Sorry Repug it was a stupid piece of shit video with clear political bias that made numerous claims without support or evidence. You guys are going to have to find something else to bash on me about once I get a job. |

I may need family support to sustain myself, but it's not like I'm living in the fucking lap of luxury here. I'm given enough to get by and that's it. I'm not going out to the bars and dropping tons of cash. I'm not at the mall shopping for new clothes and gadgets. My parents know I'm studying hard for exams right now, and that's what they want me to be doing. If I were sitting on my ass all day doing nothing but playing video games, I'd be cut off quicker than you could say "that's the truth". And if that day ever comes and I still don't have a job that I want, I will join the army, sell retail merchandise, or even work in medical billing before I'd take welfare from the government.

I know. I'm just trying to make a point.
The thing about the Occupy Wall Street people is that they're not talking about socialist ideals or saying they don't want to work. What they're saying is they're outraged over the system - not the system of capitalism - but what the system has mutated into. This video sums it up nicely (he doesn't really get to the point until 1:50). An INTENSE moment of TRUTH with MAINSTREAM Media - YouTube I think he's right. You have the super rich and connected buying politicians and lobbying to get what they want. All these deregulated banks took all these crazy risks to the point of collapse, and then got bailed out with tax payer dollars, only for them to turn around and hoard that bailout money and and then use it to further lobby Washington so no reforms get passed to discipline them or modify their behavior. It's insane. That's what the movement is about. |

DH all we're saying is it's hard for us to take you seriously when you've never, truly, been in the real world. Idealistic college students like to think like this:
![]() Where many people who have been out working for years and experiencing it first hand (especially those who are NOT living outside of their means) are more likely to think like this: ![]() That being said...these are anonymous pictures on the internet and they could be made up. But it goes to show that it's not as simple of a "black and white" issue as many people are making OWS out to be. |

I could care less what Occupy Wall Street stands for. It's a joke because they accomplished nothing but making themselves look like a bunch of drunks, slobs, and disorderly citizens. This article Officials Delay Cleanup Of NY Protesters' Park | Fox Business seems to sum up nicely what they've accomplished: pissing off neighbors of the park.
