Well, in some cases [the Monroe Doctrine] such is completely permissable without negative repercussions. I'm just trying to dig up feelings on if it's ok to help free an oppressed people. Granted, Saddam was not the worst dictator we've ever seen; but does that mean we should not have intervened with Iraq, or we should've been in Cambodia when Pol Pot murdering countless numbers of Cambodian people?

Although this is a very selfish view point, I personally think that intervention should be only allowed when American casualties can be kept EXTREMELY low.

Aside from human loss, is it really worth "liberating" a country at the cost of diplomatic relations? Not just those with the country being liberated, but with those countries who disagree with your actions? (Namely France).

Smoke a cigarette and lie some more -- These conversations kill.

Furthermore, if Narfital was strong enough to pose an actual threat to Fackengooseland, such as another fictional land we'll call Foreak... or if Narfital wasn't sitting on a huge reserve of 'Fuckleberries', their main export and a staple in the lives of almost all Fackengoosians, Fackengooseland wouldn't have given two shits about their freedom.

When to take into account the long-standing McCoy/Hatfield-esque feud between the family of the head of Fackengooseland and the Ruler of Narfital, bullying from Fackengooseland is bound to take place, even at the expense of many Fackengoosians.

Humorous, Stdx, especially the fuckleberry part; but lets actually trying to remove the American/Iraqi issue and try to define a permissable point of intervention.

It is my belief that the only way that we could permissably intervene is if the said dictator's actions have a substantial negative effect on other countries outside their own. I'm not necesarily referring to actions specifically being of a human rights nature. Whether it be economic, social, or religous attacks on outside countries it can therefore justify any interventions necesary to end such actions. Basically, if the effects of such actions have an effect or are directed torwards outside nations, then intervention is justifiable.
