royce needs to surprise hughes w/ his striking, big time. and i'm not talking about the toilet flusher. Dave Adiv swears by that kick though. in an nhb seminar we did w/ him that was exactly half of the striking we learned.

Is anyone else disapointed with this? They were hyping this as a historical announcement. They had me nearly wetting my pants. I thought maybe they finally signed Liddel vs Silva or something...As far as I'm concerned Royce is washed up. The only reason he has a very small chance is become Hughes struggles against submission artists, but I really can't see him losing to a 40 something Gracie. Fucking weak.

Friggin' Royce... Sorry DCK but I'm thinking Hughes is going to bang him out. Speaking of Bang... That KO did NOT look like it took 11 seconds... It looked a lot more like 7 or 8 on the clock when he dropped him.

i don't expect many people to give royce a the benefit of the doubt. most "modern" mma fans dismiss how deep royce's jiu-jitsu skills runs. that's fine b/c everyone is in for a surprise in may.
[blatant name dropping] i messaged royce this morning and he super psyched for this fight. you guys shouldn't expect hughes to be able to just run through him. royce is one single minded son of a bitch [/blatant name dropping] |

Also, Matt Hughes has to wear a gi, a blindfold, and cannot strike while in Royce's guard. They did however turn down Royce's request that Matt Hughes be forced to wear a noose.

Merciless and DCK are out of their fucking minds. Give me a break. Royce got tooled by Sakuraba and Yoshida and that was years agos. Royce won't beable to wear his little gi or make special rules that favor him because UFC is sanctioned by the athletic commision and is not a circus like pride.
Like I said, Royce has a chance to tap Matt, but a very slim chance. He's simply out classed in this fight. All this is is the UFC milking Royce Gracie's name, just like they've been doing with Ken Shamrock. And I think we've all see how Shamrock's been doing lately. Hughes by brutal GnP, round 2. |

I never get used to seeing the word "is" twice in a row in the same sentence.
Does everyone recall Shamrock and Gracie fighting to a draw? How do you think Matt Hughes would do against Shamrock? |

Yeah, that isn't going to happen.
Any takers on an avatar bet? The winner picks the other person's avatar for two weeks. We'll notate this in the official betting thread after the terms are agreed on. I'm taking Hughes. |

oh christ. i don't have time to lecture the sherdog/mma.tv-3 months of MMA training-crowd. you're lack of perspective is painfull. to sumarize: 1) royce fought sak (the undisputed best-pre vanderlei) for 1 hour & 30 min. he caught a few shots, but was never close to being knocked out or submitted. he had to throw in the towel b/c his ankle was re-broke (congrats to sak for the hard kick to royce's guard). 2) if you think royce vs yocheata 1 was a legit win, you are a true gracie hater and your opinion is null & void. fun fact: yocheata had to be hospitalized after their 2nd fight. 3) royce's "special rules" are NO RULES. let me ask you this: what is the best test of someone's fighting skill? a no rules, no time limit fight to either tap or KO? or an overabundance of rules and regulations where someone can lay and pray like a lonely homo to a decision?

No disrespect to Royce, but I think Rughes (god I kill myself) is technically sound enough to last 5 minutes on the ground against a Royce who probably hasn't been in serious fight prep mode in a couple years. I do agree that Royce's idea of rules are "more pure" so to speak.

LMAO off @ all you dumbasses.
First off DCK my dad got me into watching the UFC many, many years ago. I've seen EVERY ufc ever made, from #1 all the way to 56. So don't go crying about this new wave of mma fans who don't know shit, cause I'm right there with you buddy. Anyone who thinks Forest Griffin for example is going to beat Tito Ortiz is a fucking moron. Kind of like somebody who thinks Royce Gracie is going to beat Matt Hughes simply because they practice bjj themselves and feel a camaraderie with him. Maybe even met him! And Definitely want to have his baby. You need a reality check buddy. Pull your lips off Royces nut sack long enough to listen: Royce was never that good to begin with. There, I said it. Let me explain. When he came to the UFC and wiped the floor with everyone he was the shit, yes, but it was because MMA was a new sport. NOBODY had any ground skills! As far as Americans were concerned fighting was stand up sport. And the few wrestlers who did compete lacked any sort of submission knowledge. And that my friend is why Royce was able to dominate, because of everyones lack of knowledge. Today MMA is totally different. Everyone is cross trained. We have WORLD class athletes. Royce is great, and his bjj is wonderful, but when was the last time he fought in the UFC? How many years? How many wins did he get in Pride? Oh, right, Yoshida "cheated." Royce can go take his "special rules" and shove it up his ass. He might be a legend, but he's not special, he has to play within the boundaries that everyone else does. Let me ask you, just how good is Royce without his gi? Somebody needs to tell him to start practicing his no gi bjj cause that shit doesn't fly here. This is MMA not Bjj. If Hughes is smart he'll keep the fight standing, cause there's no way in fuck Royce is going to beable to take him down. Last time I checked Royce's stand up skills rival my Aunt Salley's so it is a solid game plan. Royce is a legend, and he revolutionized the sport, but people have surpassed him with their OVERALL game. His age doesn't exactly help either. |

LMAO. ok. you got me. there is no way you could be serious and believe the above statement. also, i will put my avatar up. however, hughes must win by KO or sub. likewise, if royce wins by decision, the bet is void.
