Simco only trains world champions. I heard he's something like 10,000 - 0 in NHB matches. I wonder if he's still teaching or has been exposed.
But seriously, I thought Glover briefly worked out with John Carlo and Greg Davis and did most legit bjj/mma training in Brazil. Fuck I might have that mixed up completely. |

I'm pretty sure during his white/blue days he trained at NYMAG but quickly outgrew Simco. I seem to recall even Gene admitting to having some problems with him and he was a brown at the time. He's a beast.

Since his current run though, he is so much better than I thought at the time, nothing like the other "Pit" fighters. He is just a weapon everywhere rather than a sprawl and brawl guy. | |

I'm a little bit drunk right now, but I'll attempt to explain what I think happened. Yes he eventually ended up training at the Pit in SLO, but I think it was way after the fact. I'm only jokingly saying that he's Simco-trained. I pretty sure that at some point early in his BJJ career, however, he was either training at NYMAG (New York Martial Arts Gym owned and operated by Gene Simco) or was at least going there fairly-frequently. It's possible that this is where the Greg Davis/Johnny Bombs (John Carlo) thing that AP is talking about comes from (I think they were both training BJJ there at the time as well).
At any rate, Teixeira realized that he was a beast of a monster in a tiny pond and had to find a bigger pond to do more hardcore monster stuff in. I recall doing a photoshop of "Gloversaurus Tex" back in like 2003, but was not able to find it via google image. |

Just to echo IM and clarify AP's earlier statement. AP was under the impression that neither Greg Davis, John Carlo, nor Glover trained regularly with Simco. Rather just dropped in from time to time. I always thought it weird at the time that NYC area would have such shitty bjj schools back in those days. I honestly don't know if anybody really considered NYMAG a legit bjj school.

I walked into a morning class after drinking to pukexhaustion the night before and did a decent job of handling both of the blue belts (at about 20-30 pounds under their weight) that he had there, as a white belt (not at the same time of course).
Side note: The night before, Greg told me that he gets randomly drug tested at his job, so I blew some into his face. It's still amazing that I escaped that trip alive. |
