Yes, it is 2004; however for cars it will soon be 2005. And I am getting hard just preparing to tell you about it. The Cause of My Erection
In the link above is the overview of the Mustang Line for 2005. The car is lovely, and I can't stop thinking of the possibilities, especially since Carrol Shelby may get a hand in the car in 2006.
The Ford Motor Team have put a ton of work in the design and upgrades of the car and I can't wait to see it on the road.

It's nice, its a mustang. And if I was offered one I'm sure I'd be more than happy to take it, but If I was going to spend the amount of money, I'd much rather buy an older mustang and fix it up.

I must admit that although I dislike Ford, the new Mustang is certainly a nice looking car. However, it's quite dissapointing how they turned the concept Mustang from a brilliant retro design into a blase production car. Sure, to the untrained eye they might look similar or even the same. But, had they produced the concept car DIRECTLY into a production car, then they would have had a smash hit IMHO.

Here is the concept car, for reference.

But, As STDX pointed out, the new GTO is a far better car. It has a Corvette 5.7 liter LS-1, and that is the base engine! None of this pussy 6 cylinder shit. I look forward to seeing the GTO Judge, assuming Pontiac creates one in the next few years.

I think it's great that American manufacturers are getting back on track and finally providing some solid competition for the imports.

Yes, Carrol Shelby is an automotive legend, however, the original Cobra was actually an AC car; in other words, Shelby didn't necessarily create the original design.

Anyway, just for kicks, here are some pics of the Cobras throughout the years.

The first.

The 2000 concept car. (Officially known as the Series 1, this car was actually designed with the intention of reincarnating the Cobra.) It featured a supercharged V8 putting out a measely 450hp and 400 ft. lbs of torque. Nonetheless, it is a beautiful design.

And of course here is the 2004 concept.

The key is Adrenaline and G-Forces are the catalyst. Mix in a little of that Thantos instinct and you've got yourself a true street-legal supercar enthusiast.

Americans think "bigger, more power"
Outside it's "lighter-weight, more efficient"

Americans get their G-Force kicks from more cylinders, higher displacement, and more torque.
Outside, it's engineering yielding Gs from ever sharper turns at more and more ridiculous speeds.

Though I'll admit, they're two sides of the same coin, I get more of a rush from negotiating curves with extreme prejudice behind the wheel of a car than can handle than shooting straight in a car with a couple more cylinders.

The GTO pic StDx linked to is of the car they are supposedly going to use for the 2007 model... for some reason they decided to go with the Monaro body for the first three years of this glorious automobile's resurrection.

How sure are you that the 5.7 is the base engine is the Goat? The test vehicle that Car and Driver had not too long ago was sporting 4.6 (350 bhp, 365 lb/ft, 10:1 comp). If they did decide to bump to the 5.7 before production, it's a definite improvement... possibly enough to make sense of the $30,000 price tag.

Nevermind, I checked it out today and you're right, the other specs I listed are correct, but I must've gotten that aspect confused w/ something else... dunno what I was thinking. It's definitely the 346.

Stab- I'm almost 100% sure that Pontiac is going to use the wonderful 5.7 liter enginge that was featured in the C5 corvettes.

Percip- There is definetly something to be said for touge racing, and handling is a very important aspect for a car. Nonetheless, I was personally very dissapointed by the new look for the NSX. It looks as if someone mated the previous NSX with an Enzo, but punched the mom in the stomach before the car was born.

. I just don't like how the GTO reminds me of a Grand Prix. However, I do hope someday the Trans Am comes back, I really liked where it was headed before production ended.

What was the original 1964 GTO? It was a Tempest/Lemans compact coupe with a big ass V8 stuffed under the hood. Its styling was nothing remarkable, and it was only with the advent of the "pony car" (ie. Mustang, Camaro, Cuda, etc..)that manufacturers began to focus on aesthetics as well as power. The first muscle cars were just regular compacts with large engines. With this train of thought, I think the new GTO is styled exactly how it should be. Given, it looks similar to other Pontiacs, but this is because of a little concept called brand unity. To the average person, most BMWs or Mercs look alike.

Even though these are just photochops, they are quite possibly the best Mustangs I have ever seen. As much as it pains me to say this, I would take either of those over almost any F-body car any day.

I like the 99-04 models, the models I seemed to dislike the most however; was the acclaimed Fox Body.

You know, I really do have a lot more respect for the GTO than the Mustang. Sure, from a business standpoint, offering a v6 is a good idea for the base engine. However, I was really glad to see that Pontiac isn't going to fuck around with a stupid v6. Oh no, they put an LS1 v8 in the GTO, an engine that has extreme potential and comes stock with a very large amount of horsepower. Kudos to them.

I hope GM brings back the Camaro. Here is a design made by a college student (who isn't affiliated with GM). It's a little bit old, but I think its a great retro design.

Mustang - certainly bang for the buck (if you want a "muscle car" that every other motherfucker has, and if going straight (always) is your priority rather than somewhat decent handling.)

Corvette - Classic American Sweetness, not a good car for the price, but powerful and prestegious nevertheless

GTO - Used to be cool as fuck. Please don't tarnish the reputation of this car by bringing it back.

As for me, I'd almost always take an import over american cars (they aren't always as fast, but they sure handle better, and are sweeter cars all around in my oppinion)
Corvette vs. RX-7 and Supra (even used here people I know they dont have em anymore), there is no competition, the japanese just make better rides.
