That's right it's time once again for Apple to take over the computer world!

Inside the G5 (linked for size)

The Power Mac G5 is the world?s fastest personal computer and the first with a 64-bit processor ? which means it breaks the 4 gigabyte barrier and can use up to 8 gigabytes of main memory. The new G5 processor ? available at speeds up to dual 2GHz with a new ultrahigh-bandwidth system architecture featuring AGP 8X and PCI-X ? makes the Power Mac G5 a breakthrough in desktop processing power.

1GHz Bus
The Power Mac G5?s ultra-high bandwidth system architecture features a 1GHz frontside bus ? one on each processor ? for maximum throughput. And a point-to-point system controller lets data move directly between subsystems, without affecting processor function.

Compared to PC's
When compared head-to-head against the same PCs, in a large series of Photoshop tests the dual 2GHz Power Mac G5 is 2.2 times faster than the 3GHz Pentium 4-based system and almost twice as fast as the dual 3.06GHz Xeon-based system. Additional performance tests tests reveal similar performance gains for professional music and audio creation, and scientific analysis of genetic research.

Specs
$2,999.00

Dual 2GHz PowerPC G5
1GHz frontside bus
512K L2 cache/processor
512MB DDR400 128-bit SDRAM
Expandable to 8GB SDRAM
160GB Serial ATA
SuperDrive
Three PCI-X Slots
ATI Radeon 9600 Pro
64MB DDR video memory
56K internal modem

Go ahead and make a computer that is as fast and has the same capabilities that costs less, i dare you.

Now troll away you incompetent cunts.

Well Menace that does look nice, but if you look at the specs. for the new Amd Opteron it is nicer In my opinion. The opteron has the pci-extreme, Agp 8x. I do not know if you knew this but the Apple PowerPc processor has been 64-bit since is was created by AIM. That is why the apple has been able out perform the pc in alot of test.

Support of up to three (3) coherent HyperTransport links, providing up to 19.2GB/s peak bandwidth per processor 256 Terabytes of memory address space Scales from 1-way to 8-way across entire data or compute centers utilizing the same hardware and software infrastructure Integrated memory controller reduces latencies during memory access in a SMP server system.

Ok, the first version of the opteron can only match the G5 with 1 GHz Bus speed per processor.

Well I am sorry for all of you Pc guys but the Opteron boards right now only use the pc2700 or the DDR333, but you can put faster in there and bump up the clock speed and get away with a fast setup.

Right now there are only like 4 boards out for the opteron and they have serial ata and most of them have Integrated Dual Channel SCSI.

So guys for the first few boards out, they are nice but we need to wait cause they will be great, when they get them dialed in.

so here is what I say APPLE

Mess with the Best, Die like the Rest

Show me a computer that uses this Opteron that is so fast and show me the price, then we will talk.

Apparently, you didn't know this either, because it isn't true. I disreguarded the rest of your post, because if you can so boldly make a statement that is completely false, steming from ignorance and idiocy, there can't possibly be any value in the rest of your babble.

This is the first 64-bit processor on the desktop market, previous PowerPC processors were 32-bit just like their Intel and AMD counterparts. I don't know exactly what you mean by AIM, but I assume that you are referring to the joint venture between Apple, IBM, and Motorola that created the line of processors that have been fueling Macintoshes for years. This new processor, also known as the 970 was developed by IBM for Apple. Motorola has been dragging their feet for years on creating a speedy, competetive processor, leaving Apple in a precarious position, which is why there has been a performace gap in the past year or so (Yes, even though the G4s run faster with lower clock speeds than Intel and AMD chips, they were still being outperformed recently, even in some of the dual processor configurations). The G5 (970) chip was based off the POWER4 64-bit chip that IBM developed for high-end servers. The new 970 chip is incredibly advanced, and is indeed the most powerful, fastest chip available to consumers. It also appears to be slightly less expensive to produce them than the G4 PowerMacs. Apple's top of the line machine is now less than 3000 dollars for the first time in a LONG time, and the whole line is now much more competitive.

I'm saving up to buy a PowerBook late next summer before college, and knowing what drool factor the current line has, I can't wait til that G5 works it's way into the PowerBook line and into my hands...

Apples are not too bad except that most programs are made for PCs, although it is getting much better. However, you can't upgrade an apple like you can a PC. It's just not made for improvements, so when you want better things, you have to buy a new computer, which sucks.

This machine opens up on the side completely without even a screwdriver, giving you quick, easy access to all the interior goodies. The new iMac's simply need to be opened at the base for access to memory and video card. They couldn't be easier to upgrade.
