First it was online gaming services for consoles, and now they are offering a 40 gig hardrive for the PS2. With the $100 addition Sony promises downloadable content for 2 of their games (Socom II and Syphon Filter) along with the ability to store music and digital photos, and it also includes a preloaded game, Finaly Fantasy XI.

This is all fine and swell, but what it amounts to, is limted if any, support for the $100 add on. The only two games planned to support it are both games produced by Sony, and the only way they can support it is through downloadable content, yipee!. So dont expect any thrid party support anytime soon. Furthermore, there will be no preformance increase in any of the games with the harddrive, mainly because developers cant expect everyone to have one, due to lack of standardization, and the bottleneck effect, meaning they have to design their games around the best preformance of the most common PS2 specification. So if you have no better way to spend your $100 then go ahead and buy this Xbox inspired upgrade.

Yeah no kidding. I'm seriously waiting for Dell or Hewlett Packard or Gateway or someone of the like to come out with a computer that has a built in gaming system in which you can hook up to your TV and play on there. Controllers, games, memory cards, the whole shit, right in the computer.

What the hell is wrong with turning a gaming console into a full fledged computer? It means that the games will be better and you won't have to wait so fucking long for shit to load. Personally I wouldn't mind having a Dell video gaming system. Think how kickass it would be.
