Computer Virus That Randomly Deletes MP3s? - Nubblies.net Forums

I noticed a few weeks ago one of my favorite (and most played) songs on my computer was mysteriously missing. It happened to be a rare copy that I was able to track back down again online with a relatively low amount of effort, and shrugged it off that I may have just deleted in on accident. I was cooking dinner just now and felt like listening to some Coldplay, and went to my Winamp to bring it up. Hm, thats strange, only 5 songs? Lets check the Garden State soundtrack...it should be in there (I wanted to hear Don't Panic)...yet that was gone too. All of the Garden State files were there except the Coldplay song. What the fuck. Luckily I regularly backup my shit (and will do it even moreso now), but its still fucked up. Going to spend the rest of the night running AVG and looking for patches/the possible virus I might have.

If any of you have any info on this, lemme know. I'm relatively inexperienced with computer viruses; i usually run a pretty tight ship when it comes to downloads/virus scanning but it seems one snuck through.

Another interesting note, about a week ago I noticed my AVG had been uninstalled from my computer, which I promptly reinstalled. Actually, i'm going to back everything up tonight

you sure the music files were physically deleted from your hard drive? or maybe just disappeared from your library? check where your download software automatically saves where you download.

Yes. I clear and reload my playlist every day, I don't use library functions because of how pristine I keep my music file system. These files have been in the same place for months, it isn't a misplacement issue...the folders for the albums are there, but the actual mp3 files are GONE...nothing is left but .txt files and any jpgs that came with said torrent. Its very strange.

If you google it, there are a lot of references to virii that do this sort of thing. Update your shit and see what happens.

I use i.tunes blonde the most superior .mp3 playing system on the planet. If you used this I'm betting you wouldn't have these sorts of issues. Since pride is a big part of your reasoning to be anti i.tunes I guess you'll have to miss out on what is part music and part orgasm.

blonde, have you checked to see if your power cable is secure? Have you tried restarting your computer? There should be a restart option in your windows start menu.

i'd give your monitor a quick turn off and back on..

most likely the screen just isn't refreshing whats on your computer.
